Description

*** Hearing tests at home! ***
This is a simple hearing test app.
This app can test frequency of 125hz to 8000hz and plot the result on charts.
You can save the results and compare them to find daily change of your hearing.

*** Ear Age Test ***
You can also test the age of ears. As you get older, you lose the ability to hear high frequency sounds. This high frequency sounds are also called "Mosquito sounds" or "Mosquito tones".
In this test, this app plays up to 20000hz tones and determines how far high frequency you can hear. Your ears may be younger than your actual age!

Great, but a few tweaks ...

Hello Yuichi,

Thanks for making this app. It is really pretty cool and I am happy with it.

A couple pieces of feedback though:

The regular test stops at 8KHz on the high side -- I would have preferred that it go higher.

How do you decide that 50% volume is the right level for the test?

I ask because I am using AirPods as headphones. Previously I used the wired Apple EarPods that came with the phone. I mention this because the AirPods are quite a bit quieter for the same volume setting when compared with the EarPods. With this in mind, does the app do anything to normalize for this difference?

Maybe you could do something clever like having the user place the headphone up to the phone's microphone and then playing a sound and listening to how loudly it comes back? Of course that would also be affected by the microphone's response.

It would be cool to overlay or compare two charts... to see how things change over time or to compare with someone else.

Also I think you give too much away for free. I would have happily paid $3 for this app, but the upgrade doesn't add enough value compared to what you get for free. You should do it where the basic test is limited to a narrow frequency range unless you update. Or where part of the graph results are obscured (low and high frequencies), etc..

The word "it" in Step 2 of the instructions before starting the main test should probably say "them".

Thanks!

Great App, needs a tweak though.

I have developed SSHL. The app test is inline with my audiologist test. App is easy to use. My one improvement would be, the ability to overlay multiply results so you could easily compare tests over a given time span.
Otherwise I would strongly recommend this app.

“Professional” Results

I had my hearing tested, by a professional (in the soundproof room, etc). Out of curiosity, today I downloaded several apps to check their results against the professional results.

Several of the other free apps were close but this app produced the same results as those provided by the Audiologist.

To the developer: You are selling yourself short. I realize that a lot of people who visit the App Store only explore “free” apps and charging for your app may cost you money compared to that you make with the adds.

However, if you were to charge one or two dollars for the ability to save results, I would, without hesitation, pay for that ability just because of the professional results, ease of use and my appreciation of both. If you did this, you could still capitalize on your advertising revenue.
