AmIntLakes, the Lakeland Outdoor Challenge App

This App is designed to be used within the Lake District National Park (UK) with the aim of helping you get out and enjoying the beauty of the National Park. You can visit everything for free! You just have to pay for parking or a bus fare.

Picture this, you arrive in the Lake District planning on doing some exploring and want a suggestion. AmIntLakes will act as your local guide showing you where the 214 Wainwright Fells, Lakes, Tarns, Valleys and Waterfalls are. If you are a cyclist there are also many road and MTB challenges. AmIntLakes also
- Weather Section for forecasts
- Kit List recommendations
- Trail Route suggestions for many of the challenges along with links to sites for other route ideas.
- Guide Feature. Shows direction as the crow flies.
- Grid Square Feature. Shows OS grid location and paper map reference.
- Link to Apple Maps for driving navigation
- Alerts you when you reach your target destination (destination dependant)
- Tick challenges off when completed and post to Social Media from the App.
- Tracker Feature to show you a low resolution version of where you have been today.
- Battery Stats feature to give you predications on battery life and alerts when getting critical.
- Sit on top of a fell and spot the local fells using Fell Check!
- Emergency Page with local contact details and directions for contacting emergency services. Also shows you your Grid Location and Address for the Emergency services (Device dependant).
- There is also a backup feature where you can email yourself a backup of your progress periodically. This can then be imported using file sharing within iTunes for the App.

Currently the App is based around Hiking and Cycling with other activities to follow as the App evolves. Features Wainwrights, Other Lakeland Fells, Ridge Walks, Horseshoe Walks, Road Cycle Climbs, Lakeland Swims and all Lakeland waters.

WARNING: This App uses background GPS updates. This is likely to lead to increased battery consumption whilst the App is running in the background.

The following power consumptions are estimates from test devices running this App outdoors. They are only estimates from current data and intended to give you an idea of consumptions before downloading the App.
iPhone 5 (9-12 %/hour), iPhone 6 (5-7 %/hour).

If you leave the App running accidentally it will attempt to notify you each day to recommend you close the App to improve your battery life.

The App is designed to be used on devices with GPS hardware to give you information and alerts on the move. The App does work on devices without GPS hardware but these will only be able to give you an updated location when a wifi connection is established.
