Been using for 3 months now

I have vocal cord and airway spasms along with asthma and COPD. Conversation is very tedious for me when I go to medical apts. everyone wants the same thing, name, DOB, insurance number, permission to talk to my husband, etc. This app is a game changer. Not only does it really to all questions but when I use it, the chatty people no longer expect me to converse with them.

It great for robo calls as well. Using this app to answer "hello" means if it's an AI voice, they think I'm an answering machine so they hang up. And if it's a person I want to talk to, I can.

I can't praise this app enough. What a relief to be able to communicate again.

ALS speech disabled

Love the app. I am non verbal so this app has become my voice. Love that I can save so many phrases and it is easy to learn. Do wish the setting to use only the iPhone/iPad speaker was easier to turn on. I need to go into settings, “speech, recordings and sounds” and scroll down to “always use built in speakers” to change every time I want to use to answer the phone and then back thru settings to set back to hear thru a speaker. Takes too long to keep changing. Should be one button on the main screen to do this.

I also wish the auto correct was better. I seem to make many more errors on this app than I do on text, email or word documents. The app “guesses” are wildly wrong and often times non sensical. Like if I use the app at the drug store to get Percocet, the app corrects to “petticoat.” Also, it mispronounces certain words like invalid - meaning disabled - not in val id - meaning not valid. (Which ironically is how I often feel as a disabled person!)

Developer Response ,

Hi, thanks for the review and feedback! For making a phone call with the app, it is not necessary to change the 'always use built-in speakers' setting, the speecg output is mixed into the phone call. And the app uses the spelling suggestions from the iOS onscreen keyboard, so these should be the same when using the app as when texting or emailing. For more information about phone calls or how to 'train' the keyboard not to correct certain words, please contact speechassistant@asoft.nl

So Grateful for this Miraculous App!

Thank you so much for creating Speech Assistant! Finding this app--that wonderously works across my iPhone, iPad, and Mac--changed my life when I lost my voice box. This affordable and dynamic tool enabled me to be heard in the various languages I speak. I'm sure it can do much more than I have used in these two years. It is far better than any other app I could find, including those recommended by the speech therapy community.
My only critique is not being able to access the full functionality. It seems to record sessions but I can't make it work. (As a writer and educator this feature could be invaluable; I still teach online.) And this latest update seems to have disabled my ability to use the return key to send/speak. Would love to find support on this...
