ACCOMPLISH YOUR CYCLING GOALS –POWERHOUSE® BIKE APP GUIDES YOU STEP-BY-STEP

Whether you are an advanced cyclist or just a beginner, PowerHouse Bike has a plan to improve significantly your cycling performance and fitness. Choose from six, goal-based plans: “iSlim®,” “Express Fitness,”, “CycleMax”, “Weekend Warrior”, “Zero to 20” (miles), and “Brazilian Butt”.

Each plan includes five to seven weeks of 45-90 minute workouts. Workouts are customized to the plan’s objective and your personal fitness level. For example, a “couch potato” would start a plan at a low but challenging level of effort, yet an advanced cyclist, starting the same plan, would ride at a much higher, but similarly challenging, level of effort.

During each workout ride, you pedal for measured times (intervals), at targeted levels of effort (power and cadence). How hard will you need to pedal? Enough to keep the yellow PowerHouse pointer positioned between the interval brackets!

For each of the six plans, the PowerHouse Bike app includes a free Fitness Test (FTP test) and free first workout. Most plans include 50-60 workouts; after the first workout, to continue with your selected plan you’ll make a one-time $9.99 in-app purchase.

INCREDIBLY EASY AND FUN

PowerHouse Bike uses proven power-zone interval training techniques. You ride your bike just hard enough to keep the PowerHouse yellow pointer between the brackets. The brackets move at the end of each interval, creating both exercise and recovery periods during your workout.

A pain in the ass to use while riding

The Powerhouse app is a pain in the ass to use. Part of the problem is that it requires navigation through several screens just to pair the PowerPod, and each screen can only be accessed by app buttons in the CORNERS of the screen. Most lightweight phone straps for bike use secure the phone in the corners, so the straps have to be pushed out of the way and then reset each time. (Pairing before putting the phone on the bike is too risky, because in setting the straps you risk turning off the screen, and then having to start over again.) Whoever designed the app did not take into account how most people use phones on a bike. A rigid phone cradle/clamp is a weight penalty I’m not willing to make.
If you take break for more than five minutes, the app disconnects from the PowerPod, and you have to end the ride, re-pair as described above, and start a new ride. There is no way to re-pair a disconnected PowerPod in the middle of the ride. And if you accidentally hit the DONE button on the lower lefthand corner, your ride ends immediately. There is no screen asking you if you really want to end the ride.
The Powerhouse app does not display elapsed time in a useable way. First, it is in tiny type that no one under 45 can read without reading glasses, and certainly not while riding. Second, it is in the upper right corner of the screen - under a rubber strap that holds my phone to the bike. Third, it only displays total elapsed time, not time on the bike. I would pay for an app that put actual riding time on the display where I could see it.
The Powerhouse app does not display heart rate. I know about the arguments that real racers do not need to see it. But, I’m over 65 and I want it.

Not fully functioning

I received the powerpod and set it up and used it twice. App now works fine as it will not work unless connected to the powerpod which is the issue I had with the app back in December as per my last comment on 26th December. The main issues I have no is the distance, calories and power indicator do not work. The power brackets move as per the target set in the workout but the actual power pointer moves to maximum and stays there and no average power is shown either. I hope these are something that can be fixed and if so this thing is golden. All the rest of the indications work perfectly fine. Current power, speed, cadence etc. So hopefully someone can tell me how to solve these few glitches. Thank you.

Good app needs additions

This app has a lot going for it. What needs improvement are heart rate and the ability to share with more cycling apps such as MapMyRide and RideWithGPS. HR is the priority the sharing would be helpful.
