Description

fDeck is an aircraft flight deck in your pocket that provides real-world functionality to a suite of full-featured, graphically beautiful flight instruments for your mobile device.

It allows you to virtually tune any radio aid from a worldwide aviation database, or create your own 'virtual' radio aids whever you want to practice radio navigation. Use the app as a training aid, or use it as a set of complimentary flight instruments when flying.

In addition to the beautiful flight deck instruments, fDeck also has a built-in aviation moving map that shows your location as well as relevant airspace, airport and weather and navigation data. You can move your location on the map to reposition your virtual aircraft and the flight instruments will reflect this new location. This allows you to use fDeck as a radio navigation trainer - you can see in real-time what the VOR, HSI or NDB will look like at your new location!

The following instruments are currently available in the app:

• Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI)
• VHF Omnidirectional Range Receiver (VOR)
• Automatic Direction Finder (ADF)
• Artificial Horizon
• Groundspeed Indicator
• Vertical Speed Indicator (VSI)
• Aircraft Compass, with functioning heading bug
• Altimeter - with functioning barometric pressure adjustments
• Chronometer with fuel totaliser
• Flight Planner
• Weather and Wind - display live weather and wind information including live TAF & METAR reports

If you use the X-Plane flight simulator you can even drive the flight instruments straight from X-Plane!

Key features:

• Instruments are proudly graphically accurate with ultra smooth animations
• Grid and Swipe user interface modes
• Go full-screen to focus on a single instrument, or use multiple of the same type
• Tune each instrument slot to a different radio station
• Simulate flight by panning your location on the map - use the app as a radio aids trainer!
• Worldwide aviation database containing over 20k airports and radio navigation aids, updated monthly
• Fully searchable navigation database, filterable by type
• Map view with aviation overlays showing location and tuned radio stations
• Each instrument has an associated video tutorial
• Add your own navaids - want to practice VOR radial tracking on your house - now you can!
• Supports tablets and phones and both portrait and landscape orientations

This app has taken years of work by the developer, who provides it free for your use. The app does have in-app ads. By joining the fDeck Premium Lounge via an in-app subscription or one-time purchase you can remove all in-app ads, remove the 5 user station limitation, get monthly navigation database updates, display map weather overlays, live virtual weather radar, live TAF & METAR reports and obtain unlimited access to the X-Plane connector.

If you have any issues, please consider contacting me directly instead of giving a negative rating - most times your issues can be solved or answered. A rating will not get your app to work or a new feature added, but an email might - simply use the integrated "Contact the developer" function on the app settings page.

What a great app!

Just started using this app recently and what a surprise I’m a flight instructor and Instrument Instructor (CFII) and this app offers all sorts of utilities for both teaching and flying. The applications for this app are too numerous to detail but . . . I like to set the ADF (RMI) to the destination airport when shooting approaches so that when I’m turned over to CTAF I can give very accurate position reports Additionally, I keep nearby VORs in the flight planner function so that I can give rapid position reports relative to Nav Aids when I’m requesting flight following or practice approaches. I use the chronometer for always having access to ZULU time and flight time and, it has an approach timer as well (and fuel estimations). The map function allows me to teach navigation to primary students augmented by the creation of virtual positions for teaching prior to a flight. The new flight planner function makes this app more practical than many other similar apps. I keep an active list of favorite NAV-Aids and airports and can easily “tune“ them with the flick of a finger I’m really looking forward to what this developer will continue to do with this app, I’m using it now for most flights.

What lovely review - thank you. It really is nice to hear how fDeck is used. I know you will - but please keep the suggestions for improvements coming.

Killer App!

I fly a trike (microlight) with no on-board instrumentation and discovered FDeck a few months ago after trying a few other iPhone flight apps…I’m thrilled I landed on this-it’s amazingly simple and easy to use. I have it set up so each instrument gets its own full screen view and swipe to the next one whenever I want a different instrument. The Automatic Direction finder is killer but so is the Attitude Indicator and the Vertical Speed Indicator and Compass. I’ve not used the VOR or the HSI indicators yet but I’m sure they are just as easy to follow and read as the others. The design is great. I can easily read the instruments at a glance and the functionality of FDeck is incredible and so well thought out-I purchased a lifetime membership and was more than happy to do so. I use it every time I’m up. Works great with my iPhone. Re using an iPhone while flying in the open air: I’m impressed with the the ability to keep on running in the freezing temps here in the Northern Pennsylvania Wintertime. I was up recently at 22 degrees F (-5.5 C) for about 2 hours and it never faltered. Awesome!

I have it mounted on my Ram Mount and using it with an iPhone SE. My trike is an Australian made Airborne Outback.

Excellent. Love having standard 6-pack as a backup.

I use fDeck quite often as a backup to my glass instruments as well as when flying the light-sport that has the bare minimum instruments. I guess it’s a good comfort zone for me as an older pilot.

Developer Response ,

Really good to hear. I’m glad it helps you 👍
