What’s New

Version 1.11.1

Full disclosure:

I have had someone highlight to me that it is misleading to call what is effectively a Intervalometer function a Timelapse function. I want to do everything I can to rectify this, so I am updating the app to refer to the functionality as "Intervalometer" (capturing the images for a Timelapse) instead of "Timelapse" (the actual creation of an output video).

More exciting things coming to Camrote soon!

Nice start but ...

Very nice start with this app. Able to connect to an A7RII and A9 from iPhone XS and also from an iPad. The app controls current camera functions allowed from app. Did not notice any lag in changing camera settings via the app. The Sony body recognizes the changes immediately. Was able to capture test photos using app. Connection to A9 much more straight forward than A7RII. Did not lose connection to either camera during use of app.

Currently tap to focus does not work for neither of my Sony bodies if it is developed into current version of app. Also IAP purchasing does not work. Tried countless times to use IAP purchasing to support further development efforts however it currently does not load. Unable to use options available via IAP.

Again very nice start on the app and look forward to seeing future updates!

Developer Response ,

Hi there,

First of all; glad you haven’t had too many issues with the app so far, especially on the a9 as I didn’t have many testers using it! Touch AF should work on the a7rii but unfortunately has - for reasons best known to Sony - been removed on the latest series of cameras, which I sadly can’t work around.

In App Purchases should start working automatically soon! We are just waiting on Apple propagating the information to their servers!

Take notes, Sony

I have an A7R3 with limited Timelapse functionality built-in. At best 60 second intervals, which is not great for long formats such as documenting the growth of a plant.
I’ve tried Sony's mobile app but it only does simple remote commands and settings. Their desktop app is okay, but I don’t have a way to keep the camera charged while it’s plugged in to the computer.
This app, apparently made by a single dev, has the Timelapse function I need (albeit behind a $3 purchase) And that’s actually fine. The function works well and I can keep my camera powered by a usb c brick. I have a spare iPhone SE (2016?) running it without any issues. Sony needs to take notes on this one.
My only complaint is that the live feed periodically stops working after a long time but the camera is still capturing at the 30 minute intervals. So not a major issue.

I wanted this too work

I use my Sony a9 mounted on a long pole and when I am doing this I cannot access the camera. I hoped the solution was to use this app to view my composition and control the shutter. During a 2 hour event I had numerous “lost connection” occurrences and most importantly I was unable to control my a9. There was always lag from when I repositioned my a9 to when I would see the composition on my iPhone 12 Pro screen which made it difficult to use. I had to use a Bluetooth camera remote to trigger the shutter and this app to view the composition because I could not reliably trigger the shutter through this app. I was not able to adjust exposure settings with this app and I could not view the photographs I had taken on my iPhone 12 Pro. In the end I was able to get the shots I wanted but this app did not work nearly as well as I hoped! Overall, for a free app it’s usable, but with very heavy limitations. Is there a more reliable app?
