Description

Simply point your device towards the sky and this application will display the names of the stars, constellations and planets.
You can check the orbital position of the planet in the solar system on a separate screen.
You can also display stars below the horizon.

You can display the names of about 100 bright stars, constellations, ecliptic, celestial equator, Deep Sky Objects, ISS, Celestial pole, and so on.

You can enlarge or reduce the display by spreading or narrowing (pinch operation) with two fingers.
Toggle display / non-display of constellation line, name etc. with double touch.

Great celestial sphere app

Really helps me understand my place in the cosmos. Best representation of these ideas I’ve seen!
I’m wondering if the location of the horizon line- with cardinal directions on it- set via the latitude adjustment- is in the wrong orientation. When I set latitude to 0 degrees, it aligns the horizon at the celestial pole, not the celestial equator as I understand it, but I’m new to these concepts. Similarly, when my latitude is set to 30 degrees, it is 30 degrees from the pole, not the equator, and thus showing the wrong position. Let me know what I’m getting wrong please!

UPDATE:
Thanks for the response! Many drawings later I notice that declination facing north is 90- latitude thanks to basic geometry, and thus the app is indeed spot on and I was wrong. I think I assumed declination and latitude would be equal before and now see their relation. This helps me understand where the celestial equator is in relation to my position now. Let me know if that’s still off! Cheers.

Imagine a round earth.
When you stand at 90 degrees latitude (that is, the North Pole), the north celestial pole is overhead (that is, 90 degrees above the horizon).
If you move a little south, the celestial pole is a little off overhead.
If you continue to move south and stand at the equator (that is, 0 degrees latitude), the celestial pole will be visible horizontally.
It's easy to explain by drawing a diagram, but it's difficult by writing.

(CORRECTION) This app does everything you’ll ever ask of it EXCEPT tell you when Betelgeuse will go supernova. I was SO hoping this app would tell me when. The devs should really fix this soon...

Really enjoy this app!

The only reason why it gets a 4 is that there seems to be no way to get it to show by name the position of all the planets in our solar system.

Edit for clarification:
As in, I cannot do a search for Pluto. When I try nothing happens. When I search for Neptune I see a circle blip when I follow the arrow. No name. So I would like to be able to see all the planets in our solar system automatically displayed along with the closer planets.

I understand what you mean.
By the IAU's decision in 2006, Pluto is no longer a planet. Uranus and Neptune are not currently displayed because the brightness of the stars is darker than the brightness that can be specified on the setting screen. I think what to do.
/ What does it mean to display by name? The app will display the name of the planet. You can also search by name. The orbital position can be seen on the "Display solar system planetary position" screen. All the planets will be displayed if you reduce it by pinching.
