Description

MOTIONBLINDS BRIDGE

The Motionblinds bridge needs to be installed to:

Control Motionblinds motors away from home with your smartphone

Operate multiple blinds at once by creating rooms and scenes

Connect Motionblinds to smart home platforms to make the blinds work together with other devices in the home, for example, the lighting or thermostat

SET UP

The Motionblinds bridge is an additional device that is added to your home and needs to be paired with the blinds to control the blinds. Set up and operation of the MotionBinds Wi-Fi bridge must be done with the Motionblinds Bridge app. How-to set up Motionblinds Bridge:

Buy the Motionblinds Wi-Fi Bridge and download the Motionblinds Bridge app.

Open the app to create your Motionblinds account and login to your account.

Install the bridge and follow the steps in the app to connect the bridge to your home Wi-Fi network.

Pair your blinds with the bridge in the app.

Connect the bridge to your smart home platform in the app.

CONTROL

Once your blinds are paired with the Wi-Fi bridge, you can use the Motionblinds Bridge app to control and automate the blinds from anywhere in the world using your smartphone:

Open and close your blinds from work or on holiday.

Automate your blinds by creating rooms, scenes and timers which are programmed into the bridge from the Motionblinds bridge app.

For example:

Set a timer called ‘good morning’ and your living room, dining room, hallway and kitchen blinds will open to 30% at 8.30am on weekdays.

Per bridge up to 30 blinds can be connected and up to 20 scenes and 20 timers can be programmed into the bridge using the Motionblinds bridge app.

The home can be operated by more than one person. By sharing your home with family or friends from the Motionblinds Bridge app, you can provide access to your Motionblinds bridge settings to your family members.

CONNECTIVITY

Yes - after connecting the bridge to, for example, Google, Alexa, or SmartThings, you can control Motionblinds from your favourite smart home platform. Here you can make the blinds work together with other smart devices. This also enables voice control through smart assistants.

Nightmare Setup, Great Usability

Impossible to connect if your device is running iOS 18. Thankfully I was able to dig up an old phone running iOS 14 and the bridge connected immediately. I don’t know the minimum iOS version you’d need to connect, but that’s what worked for me.

The app itself is great beyond the headache of pairing the bridge. I am able to use everything on the phone running iOS 18, and was easily able to set top/bottom heights for my blinds, set up scenes, and control blind height.

App Barely Functions

Per the instruction manual, the app is supposed to have a blue circle with a “+” sign in the bottom right corner. This button enables you to add devices, timers, rooms, and scenes. For months, this arrow is not there. Despite me trying every possible method to resolve the issue, nothing had worked. (I’ve tried — logging out and back in, cancelling the app, hitting every button within app available, scrolling past the visible area, hitting the white space where the button *should* be, turning my phone on/off; making sure app is updated to current version; reading the instruction manual; etc.) Further, the existing timers cannot be edited. When I enter the edit screen, make changes, press “done” and return to the main page, none of the edits are there. I’ve also tried every possible way to fix this issue, but it has persisted for months. To make matters worse, the feedback section of the app does not work. After trying to make a report regarding the above-stated issues, and hitting “send”, an error message stating that my report cannot be sent because my email has not been set up yet appears. It has, and my profile reflects that it has as well.

Very well developed, missing any help feature

This app is surprisingly very well developed and very slick. If you try to swipe right or left somewhere, you’ll probably find a feature. That said, I can’t find any help or how to area, and getting in touch with them is flat out impossible. Even though it is intuitive, I’m past the point of messing with my blinds trying to figure out how to set something. There’s also no reference list of commands to integrate with your smart device, so trying to control it with your voice can be difficult. If they implement a reference area, I’d happily update my review to 5 stars because it is a very well done and thorough app.
