Frustrating app to work with

I purchased a pair of hearing aids, model 9030, from Costco 2 weeks ago. I really like the hearing aids but the app is very frustrating. They connect to my phone when I first put them on in the morning but after that it is a real hit and miss situation. They won’t reconnect automatically if I walk away from the phone. The majority of the time they will not reconnect even after powering everything down and turning back on. The only reliable way to stay connected is to carry my phone around with me all the time. Bummer!

Developer Response ,

Compatibility with iPhone 12 Pro Max Issue

My Philips Hearlink 9110 mini-rite hearing aids purchased in Oct 2020 have worked seamlessly via Bluetooth with my iPhone 11 Pro Max using the Hearlink app. However, that has not been the case with a newly purchased iPhone 12 Pro Max. I now get loud static and interference suddenly occurring when listening to a variety of apps in one or both of my hearing aids, and sometimes with Bluetooth on and not even actively using any apps. That issue has forced me on multiple times to disable the Hearlink app by turning off Bluetooth pairing to avoid hearing damage. I am assuming it is an iPhone 12 design problem and not a Philips hearing aid Bluetooth interference or app problem , but I wanted to make the issue known here besides with Apple. I do give the app a five star rating for use with my iPhone 11 but no stars for use with my iPhone 12.

Developer Response ,

Dear strikelightningcrashthunder, you are completely correct. This problem seems to be mitigated now by Apple with the new update for Iphone 12 models: iOS 14.2.1. Please let us know if you face the same issues again. Thank you for your positive feedback on our app functionalities in Iphone 11. Best regards, Philips Hearing Solutions

Horrible App, Might Return Everything

I was thrilled with the sound of my new Phillips hearing aids, which I might return over this faulty unworkable app.

This app makes my 4 yr old hearing aids the preferred hearing aid for tv. Those require a necklace and are not as clear but this app ruins everything because it cuts out the TV audio stream if you want to use your phone at the same time.

First, the good part, you can listen to Audible or Libby (haven’t checked chirp or music) and open your browser or your game apps and the audio will continue to play.

This is NOT the case for TV. If you open a game on your phone, even silenced games, immediately the TV audio stream cuts out & stays out until you close the game. Browser pages vary. Apparently ones with sound content present, even though you didn’t start that audio stream (just it’s presence) cuts the TV audio out until you close the page.

Further, 2 phones don’t solve the problem. I closed out the Philips program on my new phone, installed it on my old phone and hoped I could sit & play my games. Nope! Even though the app was closed out on the new phone, somehow it knew and killed my TV audio.

Minor issue is the comical battery level. New batteries often show 70%-50%.... it’s a total joke. I can live with weird battery readings, but I do not want to be prohibited from watching tv & playing my games at the same time.

Dear Monkey 8648,

We are very sorry for the technical issues that you are facing when using our app. We have several suggestions that you might find useful to improve your experience with our app and hearing aids.

In relation to the issue with the TV and smartphone audios, we suggest to make sure that no other device is connected to your hearing instruments. Please try to forget devices on phones/tables that you are not using primarily, as well as disabling the audio streaming by going to the phone settings, under MFI (hearing aids settings). If this does not work, try changing the streaming devide with the steps provided here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202769
and
https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/stream-audio-and-video-to-other-devices-iphb152a5c6/13.0/ios/13.0

Regarding the issue with the battery, this can happen with the current technology of the battery. Some tips are:

- Leave the battery to rest for 5 minutes after removing the sticker, before inserting
- Avoid touching the surface under the sticker when you insert the battery
- Reboot your hearing aids
- Allow 15 minutes for an accurate reading.

I hope you will find useful these suggestions!

Kind regards,

Philips Consumer Care
