Description

Parrity is a Web Browser for Apple Watch.

It utilizes your paired iPhone to render rich web content and stream it to your watch where you can either interact with it live, or keep it cached for later.

Features:

- A familiar, fully operable, minified Web Browser UI.
- Visit sites directly using via Siri or Scribble, with a convenient url-composing UI.
- Share sites from Safari (enabled within the Share panel's "More" section).
- Search the Web, with support for a dozen popular engines, including google, duckduckgo, wikipedia, amazon, imdb, and more.
- Page caching allows you to toggle back and forth through pages you've yet to close at any time, regardless of whether or not your phone is in range. (Load several pages in advance! Keep them open forever!)
- Basic history management provides a list of all pages visited, which, yes, you can certainly clear at any time.
- Tap-based Interaction for clicking links or triggering events.
- Pre-load pages on your Phone and push them to your Watch. (Useful for signing in, etc)
- A Watch Face Complication, for quick high-level access.

Quirks:

- The iPhone app must be launched at least once after installing to prevent all white pages from consistently appearing. (Remember to accept the EULA while you're there!)
- Can sometimes be confused by multiple redirects.
- Does not play well with unconventionally lazy-loaded content. (eg: no twitter :( ...)
- Non-hyperlink taps may sometimes fail to trigger an expected action.
- May require additional resnaps to get the true state of a page you are trying to interact with, as load times vary, and javascript is sometimes used to relayout the screen post-load.
- No horizontal or nested scrolling.
- No textfield input.

What’s New

Version 1.3.4

- Fixed the crash on launch! Wow, that was a dumb one. Hadn't imported the WebKit framework.

Works pretty well, but have a couple of issues

I think this app probably works as well as it can, given the limitations the OS puts on the creator. And, for the most part it works. I have one issue—using the inforgraph watch face, I would like to add the parrity app as a complication, and it shows up on the complications list on the Apple Watch (SE) app, but it will not install as a complication. I have tried uninstalling several times, deleting it from both the iPhone and the watch, but it just doesn’t work. Also, is there a way to set up bookmarks, which would make browsing so much easier? Thank you for this free application.

Thanks for the review! I intend to look into the complication issue at some point. I think with newer watches they added new complication types, and they'll probably just need to each be handled independently. As for bookmarks: if you don't close a page you can flip back to it at any time (you'll be presented with a cached version from the last time you loaded it) and then you can just reload like normal. That's how I do it, anyway. :)

An honest review from someone with a new Apple Watch

First things first, thank you for creating a browser for Apple Watch. I searched up everything from google to bing (ugh I know right? Desperate) and I couldn’t find one, until I reached yours. Your browser works magnificently, and I really like the addition of being able to add in the guff of the urls, which is hard to do on Apple Watch (www., .com, etc.) Really, my only complaint is that I stumbled around quite blindly trying to use it, pressing buttons like a madman trying to reach the right menus. Before writing this review, I was thinking “there’s no way to close tabs/pages or clear history” and then 10 minutes later I found it. Other than that any other problems don’t come from the app but the webpages themselves, so solid job 👍. The slightly longer load times do irk me slightly but that might just be my garbage internet combined with the limited processing power of a watch.

Cool idea, better than nothing, needs a few key features added imo

This is a cool thing to have on your wrist. Only a couple of improvements might be of benefit to some users:

For those without microscopes for eyes - an option to zoom in/out on pages would be appreciated. I can’t find any mention of this on GitHub site nor on the app. If this feature exists and I’m missing it then my apologies.

An option to ignore all redirects would be convenient. Nearly every page brings this up and it gets a little tiresome.

Similarly for the resnap messages - most pages bring this up too, please allow resnaps without asking.

Thank you for your hard work, it’s a cool app to have!
