Description

Spending less and saving more of your money empowers you. That money multiplies and over time you build wealth.

Filthy Rich can help you spend less. And it’s more than just an app—it’s a way of thinking about money and spending.

Have you ever used an app that tried to automate budgeting by importing your bank transactions? Did you stick to your budget? Yeah, neither did we. When your budget is automated, it is out of sight and out of mind. When we built Filthy Rich and tracked our own spending, we actually stuck to it and spent less! It works!!

Some apps take a similar approach to Filthy Rich but they are so clunky and complicated it takes 20 seconds to do something that should take 2. That really impacts your ability to change behavior! We found: 1) you have to manage the budget to stick to it 2) if it's hard to manage, you’ll get frustrated and stop. Filthy Rich focuses on speed and ease!

Filthy Rich has several options for quickly recording spending:
- You can view your top 3 categories with amounts left right on your Apple Watch face.
- Tap your budget on the Apple Watch face to choose a category and type an amount to record a spend. Take 3 seconds!
- Say “Hey Siri, create a note in Filthy Rich saying $30 in gas.”

With a budget-conscious Pro subscription, you also get these very handy features:
- Sync with a partner. This even works offline! Record a spend in the middle of nowhere and it’ll sync once you come back to civilization.
- Undo anything.
- Location tracking. Totally optional, but we find it helps us remember where we were when we recorded a spend.
- Just need to start over? Clean slate lets you reset all your categories to zero and start fresh.

Oh and don’t forget these hidden gems:
- Once you’ve added income and adjusted a budget once, you don’t need to remember again just swipe right on the input field and it’ll auto fill with the last amount you used. Nifty!
- Entered the wrong income? Just tap the “x” and it’ll rewind your budget to right before you added it.

Great concept, tad clunky!

My favorite thing about this app is that it’s not linked to my bank. I don’t have to categorize purchases or try to figure out what happened when someone paid me back for lunch with Venmo. I budget my bills and subscriptions out in Excel, but this app lets me budget my spending money. Instead of having a line item for coffee, and the nail salon, and everything else I can lump it all together in the budget and then track the spending here. The interface is a bit buggy, I had trouble deleting categories, and there is no back or undo button, but this is an easy way to track how you spend. I wish it was easier to change the income amount or a line item amount, but not clean slate the whole budget. I do like how easy it is the move money between items.

Good but...

No cigar... I like the concept, and the app is clean and easy to navigate. My biggest complaints are that if you mess up, there’s no “undo” function for individual items. I was able to manage some workarounds, but when I did that, the budget would adjust to what it should’ve adjusted to when I actually spent the money and there was no way to change it. When I wanted to reset my values to zero, I needed to pay for a pro subscription. I think being able to reset the values is a basic function that should be accessible to everyone free of charge. I’m not willing to pay for an app to get a feature that I would expect to find in a free one. I would pay for the pro version of the app if it offered visual charts and diagrams showing my spending habits as well as multiple pages for budgeting, say on a weekly/biweekly/monthly basis. But as far as I can tell, there’s nothing about this app that screams “buy me!”

Thanks so much for the feedback. Early reviewers like you really help us to understand our customers better. We genuinely appreciate your time writing that up.

On the charts, that’s a feature which is already on our roadmap.

Regarding the undo and clean slate feature, I think you’ve made great points. And they jibe with what we’re hearing from others. You can expect a new release that addresses these. Cheers!

Minor Adjustments

I love this app but I can’t input decimals which is a huge overlook :( and I hate that I have to include my savings as part of my income. I just want to see my savings separate from my income. Also if you mess up, you can’t get an undo unless you pay for pro. Once that number’s in, it’s in for good unless you want to delete the whole category and start over or pay for pro. Seems like a scam :/

Developer Response ,

Thanks so much for the feedback. Let me see if I can help. We’ve found over the last few years that leaving out decimals makes things easier and faster. Let’s say I just spent $7.54 on pizza. When I record the spend, I just round up to $8.00 which also provides me with a small buffer. It may take a little getting used to, but our method genuinely changes spending behavior and makes things faster after an initial learning curve.

The savings thing is actually a really important principle in our method. A lot of people don’t think of future expenses that can drain their budgets (like car repairs) so it’s important to save a little every month into those things and using a budget as the mechanism for that is a really powerful way to do it. That said, the categories can be set up however you want. So if you don’t want that section or its categories, that’s totally in your control 👍🏼.

On the undo thing, we think you’re right and we’re going to address that in a future release.
