Description

You can think of a two part polyrhythm as two sets of accents on a fundamental pulse common to the two rhythms. If you’d like to think of polyrhythms that way, wow—are you ever lucky to find this thing!

You can feel and count these smaller even beats instead of just trying to feel the fractions directly. Timeslicer shows you all these counts in action. You can even set it up to hear that underlying pulse, if you want.

You can set the sounds and rhythms and tempo of the beats you'd like to practice. Then listen, watch, count, feel.

When you think you have it, tap along on the buttons at the bottom. Keep the beats orange to bump up the combo counter and continue your streak. *

The preset exercises are just a set of beats and sounds we especially like. They go from dead simple to verging on the complicated. They work just like the practice beats, except that your max combo gets saved for next time.

* As the maker of this thing, we feel the need to point out that tapping in lockstep to clockwork is perhaps not the most musical of human activities. Still, we sometimes like to try to prove to ourselves that we could do it indefinitely, if we really wanted to.

Súper App

Love the app! Once I figured out how to use the UI, it was super and fun to test myself. I love the fact that you can adjust your playing accuracy from loose to tight. Very fun way to learn polyrhythms without having to count every beat in your head and remember which beat they fall on, lol…

However, figuring it out was a bit confusing for me. The initial screen could use with a bit more words to explain what’s going on. Just a thought: I would consider replacing the number of beats with a single field and labeling “# beats, left”, also relabeling “one” to “down beat” and adding “left/right sound” to the center column.

Additionally, I wonder if you might consider a scrolling UI on the training screen for long exercises (6:7 at 42 beats) rather than splitting up the center into multiple columns. That way, the next beat will always be at the top of the screen rather than having to contort your brain to figure out… is it left or right, or when will it be? Hope that makes sense.

Anyway, let me know if you’d like to talk further would be happy to explain my thoughts. The logic of the app is superb I just find the UI to be wanting. Again, super job. Happy that this exists!

A “Must Have” App for ANY Musician.

This is so “neat” as we used to say. The simplicity of this app requires no instructions. Set the right and left sides to contrasting instruments and it’s easy to hear how both sides interact. At first I just tried all the number combinations to listen. Then today I tried the test mode. I love how it displays color intensity depending on how much your timing is off. There must be many Christopher Cross’s but wouldn’t be surprising if this program was written by the great American singer songwriter. Even if it isn’t, then both CC’s are geniuses! This IS a “must have” app for ANY musician. I’d be happy to pay a little bit for this, but FREE? No way! Yep it’s true. Thank you Chris!

This is amazing. Groove out.

Best polyrhythm app I’ve seen so far. Extremely customizable. Something every musician should practice regularly. Especially rhythm section players, obviously.

This is pure musical challenge and an incredible tool for growth. Thank you developers. You’re fighting for the greater good, and there’s certainly no way you’re getting the kind of compensation you very much deserve ✌🏼
