Description

UAF Traffic is a traffic counting app especially for rural communities. It is designed to allow anyone to collect turn counts for a traffic intersection. This app allows you to customize up to five kinds of "vehicles" ranging from typical pedestrians, bicycles, cars, and trucks to nontraditional vehicles such as four wheelers, snow machines, dog sleds, and planes! UAF Traffic uses a simple drag and drop operation. You simply drag the "vehicle" from the intersection it is coming from towards the direction it is traveling. Each move is recorded into a session which contains information about the intersection such as date, north-south road name and east-west road name. The session can be exported as a Comma Separated Values (CSV) format for easy analysis with your favorite spreadsheet.

Tried and failed

It glitches and stops often. Why so many vehicle types? You aren’t going to count planes and snowmobiles at the same time. Seems unnecessary. Cars isn’t even a default. The drag towards a direction of turning is slow and cumbersome and won’t work with heavy traffic. Just have turn arrows.

Developer Response ,

I think the fact that a car isn't default was an oversight. We were so focused on the variety of vehicles that we didn't make sure of that. Unfortunately, we can't update the software anymore. I appreciate the feedback though and I'm sorry the app isn't able to meet your needs.

App bogs and doesn’t do what it should.

UAF Traffic app bogs and doesn’t take selected build inputs. Cannot account for turn lanes nor types of vehicles/modes of conveyance, despite being able to select during build. Recommend going back to the drawing board with this. Using 13.3.1

Developer Response ,

Sorry for the late response. The app does bog a little while setting up a session, and there is not much that can be done about that now. However, it was a design decision to focus on the types of vehicles, rather than a detailed version of the intersection as the kinds of intersections we imagined are rural in nature. As such, you would drag and drop the vehicle from the direction they are coming from to the direction they went, and this automatically handles whether they turned, went straight, or made a U-turn. The recorded data has the type of vehicle, time of recording, and from/to directions.
