Description

Official app of the board game by Mike Fitzgerad and Eagle Gryphon Games.

Welcome to Football Highlights 2052!

Football Highlights 2052 is like watching TV highlights of early 21st-century football games, with the game play being full of theme but with no time-outs or commercial breaks and all without bogging down in a play-by-play football simulation.

In this quick and interactive game, two players manage their teams, combining both strategy (building your team) and tactics (playing the game) without any downtime. During each half, players alternate playing ten cards to simulate a full game's highlights. Each card represents both an offensive and a defensive play, both of which will be used to resolve your opponent's and your own offensive plays.

Do you try to thwart your opponent's threatened offense, or put up a strong offense of your own? The player who makes the best use of their plays will score the most points through touchdowns, field goals, and even safeties to win the game!

Features:
35 Unique Free Agents and four 15-man starting teams
Solo play versus an AI
Interactive tutorial to get you playing quickly
Autosave and Resume Last Game
Play a single game or a Full season and playoffs

Good But Could it have been Great?

It’s a card game in the physical world and in the digital world, where anything is possible . . . . it’s still a card game. So, that’s all okay, as okay goes, the app brings the card game to your digital device. But, could there have been more? Perhaps a grid iron view, some animation, a football moving along the field? None of that is here. The app is about the cards and some statistics. Not bad if you love the game and want the nuts and bolts. But more was possible. Bells and whistles would draw more to the game and, frankly, it’s 2020, the technology exists, and this is a 1980s version of a 21st century game. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the game and the mechanics. I just wish the app production went further. It does not, but you still get the game here if that’s all you want.

Developer Response ,

Good thoughts. The limitation though is pretty small phone screens. Animated football players is also a heck of a lot of work for something that ends up just being window dressing. If the app was selling for 20-30$, then yeah maybe, but not for 4$.

I added season play and playoffs which is not really part of the boardgame and that alone was quite a bit of work. Hope you like the game.

Season mode freeze ups

I really enjoy playing your game. The only real issue I have with it is that it tends to freeze up at some point in season mode. I had completed 12 games in a 14 game season only to have the game freeze on me in the middle of the 13th game. I tried rebooting the app but to no avail as the game in progress would not respond. I had no choice but to abort my season (my record was 8-4 and had already clinched a playoff berth) and start over....VERY FRUSTRATING!! I then attempted a 10 game season in which it froze during the 5th game. Also during the halftime draft session the A.I. seemingly ‘steals’ some of the cards I had selected and kept for the second half. If these bugs are fixed then I could probably rate 5 stars.

Plays like the physical game

Would be nice if some of the animations could be sped up. It would be cool if your team deck was allowed to keep the players drafted instead of resetting. Overall, a pretty good experience.
