Description

The word "VITAMIN" is derived from the Latin word "VITA" which means "VITALITY" or "LIFE". Indeed, our life would not be possible without vitamins.

This minimalist app tracks your nutrients. It is simple and full of useful functions at the same time. The app is fully compatible with Apple Health enabling you to monitor the state of your health the way you're used to. There are iCloud backups that ensure seamless sync between your devices and keep your data safe in case you lose your device.

The dietary supplements section automatically calculates how many vitamins and minerals you get and saves them.

The pills section empowers you to create any pills unsupported by Apple Health. For example, you can add vitamin D3, Aspirin or any other tablet you plan to track.

You can always go back to your nutrient-tracking history. Sometimes you might need to analyze your past eating habits or give the report to your doctor. Monthly and yearly summaries give you a good perspective into longer periods of time.

A list of foods, recommended by the USA National Institute of Health, is shown for each vitamin and mineral.

Initially, each vitamin and mineral defaults to a recommended daily average for an adult.

Apple Watch app supports all watch faces and provides useful information about your nutrients.

Good start, needs a few more features

Love the app so far, however it would be great if I can scan the barcode of a product and that information populates automatically rather than me staring at a label and inputting it manually. More control over the measurements as well, I had to input MG for something that was MCG, for example 7 mg instead of 7mcg. Allow us to type the number in rather than pressing the plus or minus sign. Some measurements allowed decimal points while some were only whole numbers, I think decimal points should be on all of them as not all vitamins measure the same. A vitamin “diary” or calendar view so I know which days I took which supplements. A daily dashboard so I know how much of a certain vitamin/mineral I have taken for the day, based on the daily nutrition value, so that I don’t overdose.

Developer Response ,

First, thank you for the review. It matters to us. Now, to your comments.
Lookup product by barcode is great but huge feature for us, Martspec is not yet at the size to do it. Pretty much it would require to cooperate with whoever has all data on products.
Units are taken from Apple Health, some nutrients in MG, others are in MCG. However, we did notice that some products do not follow what Apple sets as standard. For sync with Apple Health to work the units need to match what Apple sets there. It just would not take units other than it wants.
Buttons plus/minus have acceleration. If you tap and hold it would go faster. Idea to have buttons implies closer experience to Apple Watch. However, typing number might be easier. We need to discuss it with designer. No promises here.
Decimal points only appear on nutrients that are measured in small values. Others, such has vitamin C or A usually measured in hundreds and decimal point does not appear there. This behavior similar to all devices and really helpful on Apple Watch where screen real estate is limited.
The vitamin "diary" or calendar is something we want to do, yet do not know how that should look and feel. Also, with recent announcement Apple made at WWDC 22 with the new app drug scheduler I think they address both items: scheduler and barcode scanner. I have not yet seen it, but if that what they claim it -- competing agains Apple would like playing cards agains Casino.
For each nutrients there is MAX value that you can enter, the values is taken from the nutrients book I used in College. However, currently if you enter multiple values at the same day you would have multiple records. App checks each record but not sum of values for the 24h period. Yes, this is not too awesome. It does make sense to sum values up for the day. Adding to the roadmap.

good for simplistic tracking, not customizable enough

First, love that it syncs with Apple Health and doesn’t collect any data from me—two important factors I looked for when choosing a pill-tracking app.

Second, though, the app’s interface is extremely simple—that’s a disadvantage for me, but could be an advantage for an older person or someone else who isn’t smartphone-savvy.

Things I dislike:
1. I can’t seem to type the number of units (mg, mcg, etc.) of the substance I’m taking. I have to hold down the + or - button, like setting the time on an old clock radio. This is time-consuming if the last pill I took had, say, 4 mg of calcium and I’m now taking one that has 200 mg.
2. In the free version, I can only save 3 “pills” and 3 “supplements.”
3. It only allows me to enter common, pre-programmed “letter-vitamins” as I call them, and common minerals as ingredients in “supplements”. If there are probiotics, amino acids, herbs, or anything else in the supplements, there is no way to include that in the ingredients.
4. It doesn’t allow me to enter the ingredients of “pills” at all, only the name of pills, and there’s a relatively low character limit.

I’d recommend this for my parents or grandparents to track the whole pills they’re taking, but since I want to track the amount of individual ingredients I’m receiving from a large regimen of different pills prescribed by my functional doctor, I’ll be switching to a more customizable & flexible app.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review. Our goal is to ensure that our app's interface is user-friendly and easy to navigate, particularly for those who are not familiar with smartphones. Yes, we do not collect or store any user data on our servers 🛡. Our marketing team often asks about our audience's demographics, but I always inform them that we do not gather any information about our users. Therefore, I am unable to provide them with any data regarding our audience's age or other characteristics. We simply do not have them and want to keep it that way.

✅ Now please let me answer items 1-4 from your review.

1. 👉 That is correct. The design was inspired by a clock I had when I was a student at Texas Tech. It also happened to align well with the Apple Watch version. If you tap and hold the button, the numbers will change faster and faster, making it easier to reach the desired value quickly. However, our team is currently discussing whether or not we need to make any changes to the design.

2. 👉 Our company is a small startup and all of our employees work voluntarily. I am looking for ways to reward people for their dedication to the project, while also ensuring that we do not tarnish the app with advertisements like other companies do.

3. 👉 This is a limitation that we hope to overcome in future versions. Our team consists of only one software engineer who manages all 6 mobile apps. We strive to work efficiently without compromising on quality, but due to our small size, implementing new features may take longer compared to larger corporations.

4. 👉It is challenging to strike a balance between keeping an app simple while also providing rich functionality. Our team members suggested adding a notes section for pills or the option to take pictures, and even combining them with supplements to cover all bases.

❗Thank you for providing such a thorough review. I appreciate the accuracy of your observations, and I believe your insights will assist other users in selecting the optimal app for their needs.

Suggestion

I really like the idea of this app. I just wish I didn’t have to manually type in each one. If this app was connected to an app like cronometer then I could just track my food in the cronometer app and it would be automatically updated into this app. saving me a considerable amount of time I can see myself not using this app in the future, due to having to type in everything individually every day. Since I already have to track my food it would just make it that much easier. I hope you consider to work with a company like cronometer since I love being able to just scan the barcode of my food and go.

Developer Response ,

Thank you so much for your honest feedback! We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts about our app.
We understand your frustration with having to manually input your food entries. This is something we are concidering because on different day doses might differ a lot and pushing those buttons might be not the best approach. Initiall idea was that inputs do not change much and with such inputs it easier to keep error free. In January in the reminders we have already added free-text field where one can type values.

Integrating with external apps like Cronometer is definitely something worth considering, and we're exploring potential partnerships and integrations to streamline the tracking process.

We are small startup with only one mobile app engineer and 7 apps, trying to do our best to server all apps as quickly as we can while still putting priorities on quality over delivery times.

✅ We hear you loud and clear – saving time and making healthy habits easier is crucial. While we can't confirm specific integrations just yet, please know that we're actively exploing solutions to make the app even more convenient for you.
