Description

This application is NOT compatible with the Apple Watch. If your device is connected with a watch, when the device is "asleep", you will not hear the ships bell notification sounds. The notification goes to the watch. The watch plays its own notification sound. There is no way to prevent this behavior.

- mark time by sounding the ship's bell
- display a twenty-four hour clock face with hands for the hour, minute, and the four-hour ship's watch
- display of the current latitude and longitude in degrees, minutes, and seconds
- display of the current heading using points of the compass
- display of velocity in knots
- display the hour angle of the sun and moon
- display the hour UTC

What’s New

Version 1.3.2

- The moon now orients bottom to center. It’s phase looks as if lighted by the sun.
- The sun and moon will no longer sometimes hang-up at midnight. Most probably no longer.
- Removed support for the watch because presence of the watch disables the bells.
- Notifications (bells) will no longer play after dismissing the app while it is running in the background.
- The bell will no longer play when the app is started or moved to foreground after being in background.

Good but a few gripes ...

Basic functionality is excellent, and the bell sound is charming, but ...

(1) The app needs a volume control, and

(2) The displays of hour angle of sun and moon only update at the moment the app becomes active. How about more often, say once a minute?

Developer Response ,

Thank you for appreciating the bell sounds. Thank you for the volume adjustment suggestion. The sun and moon position do update every minute. Occasionally I've seen them freeze up and have had to restart the app. It's so seldom that I haven't been able to reproduce it. I've opened an issue to track it and keep me reminded about it. Replaces my Weems and Plath

My Weems and Plath clock failed, ringing the incorrect number of bells, and they would not do anything to fix it. So I bought this and put it on an unused iPhone.
The bell sounds are far superior to any app, and actually are better than the chiming ship’s clock, much to my surprise.
I do have an Apple watch, unfortunately, as the app developer noted, the clock will not chime on my current iPhone if it is connected to the watch.
That’s my only complaint.

Perfect sound & operation!!!

Now that app is working with Apple update it is doing so perfectly. Great replacement for “Marine Bells” that bailed on their app. Bell sound: Perfect. Bell count: Perfect. Clock information: Perfect. You will have no control over this app as it is entirely automatic. It does mute during “Sleep “ and knows your location. This is the only GENUINE AND RELIABLE ship’s clock offered. The others are junk!!!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! USN RET. ‘Nam - Iraq 🇺🇸

Developer Response ,

Thank you so much for your appreciative review. If you think of settings that you would like to have control over, please write to me using the contact information found by following the support link. I'd like to be able to toggle-off the location display. That's on the list.
