Details

The construction industry is a project-based business. Contractors are constantly adjusting their labor staffing based on their number of active projects. As a result, tradesmen often move from one construction employer to another based on the various project needs. Many tradesmen even prefer to be able to pick and choose based on active projects that interest them. And a portion of tradesmen don’t mind traveling for jobs if this translates to higher pay.

Now, commercial construction contractors and tradesman can connect with each other through CrewBelt to negotiate provision of skilled labor on projects posted in the app.

Through this application, a contractor will post a job and the number of tradesmen needed for staffing the job. This post will include the location of the job, the intended pay range, the per diem amount (if any), the projected start and end dates, the number of hours per week, the skills required for the work and other relevant information.

Once a construction job is posted, tradesmen will be able to offer their services through their online profile. The tradesmen profile will include past experience, skills possessed, certifications and licenses, willingness to travel, ratings from previous engagements through CrewBelt and other relevant information.

Once a tradesman identifies a project of interest, they will send an offer through CrewBelt. The offer will only include two elements – an hourly rate of pay and a rate of per diem (if appropriate). Upon receipt of the offer, the contractor will review the tradesmen’s profile and offer and then decide whether to accept, reject or counter the offer. The tradesman will then have one last opportunity to counter. At any point, a rejection by either party terminates the negotiation process.

Upon acceptance by both parties, the tradesman will begin work on the construction project on the date listed in the project’s post. Each week, the tradesman will submit hours worked through the timesheet function in CrewBelt. Upon submission of a timesheet, the application will generate an invoice on behalf of the tradesman that will be sent to the contractor. The invoice will include the hours worked by day, the agreed-upon rate of pay and calculation of the total amount due. Upon contractor review, drafted funds will then electronically transfer from the contractor’s bank account to the tradesman’s bank account.

At the end of the project, the contractor will be encouraged to provide a rating of the tradesman’s performance on a scale of one to five. Administrative processes will be used to ensure these ratings remain fair.

CrewBelt offers skilled craftsmen the potential to increase demand for their services which could ultimately lead to higher earnings. In addition, they will have more transparency to the various opportunities available. They will also have more control over the amount of time they don’t work. For example, a tradesman might work on a project for a year and take off for a couple of months to do whatever they enjoy.

CrewBelt offers construction contractors improved transparency and visibility into the contract labor pool of skilled craftsmen. A contractor will be able to review past experiences and ratings to help determine if a tradesman will be acceptable for a project. CrewBelt should also allow contractors to avoid the cost of outside services typically engaged to find this skilled labor.
