Book art turns hardcover books into bold and sophisticated art pieces. Sometimes called 'Book Origami', book folding can be a surprisingly easy and peaceful form of meditation. Following simple patterns, anyone can create beautiful and unique gifts for loved ones that work fabulously as home decor. The actual book folding patterns were once difficult to find - until now! Simply add your images, shapes, and loved ones' names into the Book Art Pattern Maker, and generate a pattern in seconds. All of your patterns are stored conveniently in your iPhone's Documents folder for easy access. With the iOS Book Art app, it's easier than ever to create Measure, Mark, Fold patterns, Cut & Fold patterns, and Shadow Fold patterns.
Just tap 'Create document' and enter a few details about the book you would like to fold. For beginners, Measure, Mark, Fold patterns work best with solid images and shapes that aren't overly detailed; hearts and names are perfect! Advanced Book Artists will be eager to try the new Cut & Fold option. Check the preview to make sure the pattern was generated appropriately; if necessary, try adding or removing white spaces around your shape to adjust the aspect ratio. Then follow the instructions: measure the distance from the top of the page and mark the respective 'start mark' and 'end mark.' You may use inches or centimeters, just stay consistent with whichever unit you used to generate the pattern. Then at each mark, make your creases and fold the corners of the page inward. Then - that's it! Keep folding until you reach the end of the pattern. One of the most enjoyable feelings is watching the pattern take shape, page by page.

There's a Facebook group called 'Book Art Pattern Maker for iOS,' you're welcome to post any questions, concerns or feedback for improving the app there, as well as any finished products you've folded. Exporting to PDF is definitely in the works for version 3.0, so it'll be easy to sell the patterns this app creates. For now, it's possible to share patterns with other users, or even tap a row of instructions like a 'digital ruler' so paperless folding is especially convenient.

*Edit 2 - even more features have stopped working, such as simply being able to name the patterns. Developer website linked to Apple Store no longer exists which makes me think the app won’t be updated ever to fix issues. Still functional but frustrating to use.
*Edited - some features aren’t showing up in the app anymore, if I go into a pattern there is no way to get out without exiting the app and relaunching. Still functional, but can be frustrating to use if you have a lot of patterns.*
It’s fairly easy to use, I have had some issues with images having large gaps in the preview when I adjust the page number in increments of 20 (it seems to only really like 400 or 600 page books) but that may just be a preview viewing issue not a problem with the pattern. Being able to print them out is very helpful as well. Definitely worth the cost of the app!
So frustrated with this app!
I want to do a simple MMF pattern with letters in a block font. There are no instructions or tutorial that I can find. I finally typed out and took a picture of the word I want to make and it tells me it won’t work. I can’t just type in the word (I guess). I spent $10 on this app and can’t get any help. If it was a real product it would be a brick doorstop. I joined the Facebook group to ask for help and I notice everyone who has written a question gets zero answers including me. I’d like my money back but I can’t even get to anyone to ask for help or get a refund. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!
