Truly Excellent HoMM game!
I loved Heroes of Might & Magic as a kid and this game scratches that itch perfectly. Much better than the officially licensed games.
This is very FTP friendly. I’ve been playing just over two months and have dozens of godlike units without spending a dime. The progression also feels fairly balanced and the rewards for the weekly events in particular are great.
I have only two things I think would improve the game. Firstly I’d love to see some mechanic that allows you to preferentially get certain units or even certain factions of units. While the tactical gameplay is great the overall strategy almost entirely depends on luck and then smart use of whichever units you luck into.
The second issue is daily quests. One of the daily quests is to buy a unit from the shop. Early on this isn’t a big deal, they’re cheap and there’s usually something you can use at least for a little while. Later on the number and quality of unit goes up but so does the price. I can’t spend less than 1000 gold to buy a unit and since gold is the main bottleneck and I get less than that for doing the daily quests and the only units I care about are 20-50k and I REALLY can’t afford that so it’s just not worth it. Either make the daily units cheaper or remove them from the daily quests please!
There’s no paywall. Excellent game
Sure, there’s a ton of ads, but I don’t mind them since you progress rather quickly by doing the weekly event. Completing each weekly event massively upgrades your units, and they’re possible to complete without spending money. Been playing for a few months and I’m loving it! Don’t blast through the campaign, just complete whatever’s needed to unlock the killer box every few hours, and you’ll steadily progress. Playing 10-15 minutes every 3 hours is how you avoid burnout and hitting a wall in progression
Fun HOMM style mobile game
I like this game! As a fan of the Heroes of Might and Magic series, I think this iteration captures the most important mechanics of battlefield unit usage and spell casting from those games.
As a f2p game you encounter some barriers to progression overcome by spending either time or real money, but in general the content provides you with enough premium currency to enjoy the game.
That is, until you reach an in-game gate that charges you premium currency to access content behind it. This gate gets progressively more expensive in subsequent levels. So the game employs a literal paywall that eventually requires either real money or lots of currency grinding to overcome.
I am not reviewing their monetization methods, which I clearly find questionable. Behind that, the game itself is fun to play if you enjoy strategic board style fantasy games.
