App used to be SO much better

What I don’t understand is that this app used to be able to cache the livestream. The user could pause, rewind and fast-forward to catch up, so we *know* it’s possible. This functionality disappeared around the pandemic (when it was still the KPCC app.) Why torture those of us who are information junkies (and pay $100s to LAist) by taking this functionality away? Is it so you could pump every restart with a contributor’s ‘ad’ (which, coincidentally, got more aggressive around the time the caching functionality disappeared and the app became prone to crashing..?) Please tell us this isn’t a ‘cash grab’ effort by a PUBLIC radio affiliate, gone wrong?! As an end-user who misses content constantly because of app crashes, I can tell you it has the opposite effect: having to listen to the same sponsorship ‘ad’ before you can get back to the content you are missing simply gives one a negative association with that contributor statement. Please bring *back* caching functionality!

2022 Updated Review

Since my last review, I feel the app has improved slightly, with the addition of more podcasts and frequent news updates. Unfortunately, the livestream and streaming of archived shows is still problematic. The app doesn’t keep your place if you get a call or have to switch audio apps temporarily. The feed crashes regularly, and the app just resets randomly unless you’re listening uninterrupted, and even that crashes sporadically. There hasn’t been much improvement to this app over the last several years, which is very disappointing. I love KPCC, but I can pull up a radio app and get better more consistent audio streaming than this app has ever had. Why this app hasn’t been fixed, I have no idea.

Flakey App

Seems since the last release the app will suddenly shift from one program to another(usually previously heard). It may or may not shift back to the correct ‘live’ programming. Occasionally the program will replay from the previous hour. Occasionally it’s jumping between three different programs within 5 minutes.
