What’s New

Version 16.2.1

MORA/LSALT Grid Overlay
• Identify the altitudes to avoid along your flight route by referencing the Minimum Off-Route Altitude (MORA), or Lowest Safe Altitude (LSALT) in Australia, directly on the map.
• Altitudes, in feet, are represented as the first number indicating thousands and the second, smaller number indicating hundreds within the grid.
• The grid initially is presented as a 5ºx5º grid, which dynamically condenses to 1ºx1º as you zoom in on the map.
• Altitudes under 10,000 feet are depicted in green, suggesting lower terrain/obstacle heights, while altitudes exceeding 10,000 feet are highlighted in red, indicating significantly higher terrain/obstacles.
• This new setting is enabled by default but can be disabled in Map Settings > Grid MORA/LSALT (ft) while the Aeronautical Map is active.

Logbook: Preview Student Comments
• Instructors can now review student comments prior to signing remote entries, ensuring transparency and efficiency. Easily append notes, sign, and save without hassle.
• New signature requests appear in Logbook > Drafts & Requests with a preview of the student’s comments.
• In addition to existing functionalities, instructors can now save the draft along with student comments to their personal logbook. This ensures that student comments are retained for future reference, enabling the instructor to maintain accurate records.

Aircraft on Same Runway Alerts
• Receive critical safety alerts before entering a runway, notifying you of other aircraft occupying the runway.
• The prominent visual and audio alerts specify which runway the traffic target is currently using or approaching and visually highlight the traffic target in red.
• Customize the types of alerts you receive or disable them entirely in Map Settings > Alerts.
• Available while receiving traffic information from any ADS-B or FLARM device.

Controlled Airspace Alerts: RMZs Added
• Controlled airspace alerts now encompass RMZs along with their frequencies, providing convenient and timely reference as you approach airspace.
• Visibility of RMZ frequencies requires a European subscription, while RMZ alerts are accessible to all users.
• You can optionally disable RMZs in airspace alerts and customize the alerts in other ways in Map Settings > Alerts > Airspace & NOTAMs.

Who do you ask?

When you have an Apple iPad, Multiple Garmin devices, and Foreflight… who do you call to get a straight answer in regard to “How does this Hardware and Software connect together?”

Well, in my case I have 5th gen iPad mini running Foreflight software, a Garmin GNC 355, and I’d love to know if it’s worth the $8000 to buy a Garmin GNX 345. To be worth it, I would need to KNOW for certain that I could communicate both directions between the 355 GPS and the iPad / Foreflight AND also receive all of the ADS-B in as well as Weather from the GNX 345. Does Garmin who produces the $20K in avionics know… no they don’t, they directed me to Foreflight. Does the Avionics ship know… no they don’t, they direct me to Foreflight. When I look at Apple connecting multiple devices via multiple Bluetooth connections they say yes you can have multiple Bluetooth connections and then give an example of connecting multiple ear buds which will play a common source of music BUT that is not the same as connecting into two complex avionics with bi-directional communication on at least one of the two. Long story short, just send the question to Foreflight is my recommendation because within hours of me doing so, I had a response which said definitely that I could simultaneously connect both the GNC 355 and GTX 345 via Bluetooth to my iPad, transfer flight plans back and forth and also get the weather and ADS-B in traffic info through Foreflight…. Thank you Foreflight support team

IFR-Pilot ,

We use this daily!

We fly 12 to 18 hours per week with ForeFlight and Stratus 2. ForeFlight has come along way since it’s introduction with synthetic vision, excellent integration with Stratus and so much more. I did get concerned with the previous version as we started having multiple crashes on two different newer iPads daily. We do load multiple waypoint and it seemed like that might have been a factor? I always make sure my iPad has plenty of open SSD space and the newer iPads have 2GB or more RAM, so I wonder if the software rolled out too fast? We’re also very careful about not updating the OS until the all clear is given. I just hope ForeFlight’s team slows down a little on all the bells and whistles. It’s much more crucial for the product to work flawlessly versus having 3D views of airports / etc. All in all ForeFlight is the BEST aviation App on the market and their team is obviously awesome at coding. My concerns and comments here about previous crashes are only because we’re addicted to ForeFlight and never want to see it burdened with issues. The new version seems to be more stable with only the rare crash. It does open back up in seconds right were you left off. Keep up the good work. Thanks ForeFlight!

Life Saver

Early in my flying career, shortly after my first solo but before my ppl check ride I was saved by Foreflight. Flying solo, I was out practicing maneuvers and not paying any attention to the weather that was coming in behind me, and covering the airport I was to return to. When it was time to come back I pointed the nose toward my home base and before I really knew what I had done, I flew vfr into imc. No where near instrument rated I was truly lost in a sea of white. Thankfully I had Foreflight on my iPad with synthetic vision and the stratus 2 feeding attitude information. I transitioned to flying the plane like a video game watching that screen. I was able to keep the plane under control and maneuver though and out of the imc to and alternate airport and land safely. It was an absolutely terrifying event for me. I truly believe the outcome would not have been even close to this had Foreflight not been in the cockpit with me. For this I am truly thankful and fly with Foreflight on every flight. Through the years Foreflight has only increased its capabilities and has never let me down. I recommend it to everyone who flies. Thanks for a great product and saving my life.
