Description

Transruler is an app to understand, display and play various musical scales. Transruler makes transposition easy.

Transruler provides three rulers. The middle ruler contains all tones and semitones. The top and bottom ruler can each display a selectable scale. You can move each ruler and set the key note independently.

You can play a single note by tapping once. A double tap on a scale ruler plays all notes in this scale. Double tap on the note ruler plays one octave.

This all helps to visualize and learn the relationship between different scales and/or keys.

This free version of Transruler displays an ad banner and just contains the Major, Minor and Blues scale.

After purchasing an instrument or the editor Transruler free hides the ad banner and enables the following scales:

- Major
- Major (Pentatonic)
- Minor
- Minor (Pentatonic)
- Minor (Harmonic)
- Minor (Melodic)
- Blues Minor
- Blues Major
- Gypsy Major
- Gypsy Minor
- Ionian
- Dorian
- Phrygian
- Lydian
- Mixolydian
- Aeolian

Useful, but . . .

. . . It'd be far better for transposing were the Roman scale intervals on the middle band with the note scales on the sliding top and bottom bands. That way they all three line up together vertically. I made a slide-rule-type transposer like that--it's far easier to read without errors.

I find this app useful to understand the relationship between scales and to memorize how the chords are constructed from them. The scale editor is simple to deal with and for me it was useful to manually add chords to my library. The cloud update between ipad and iphone works well. I couldn't find a Restore purchases button, so you have to blindly trust that the buy button will not charge you 2 times (it didn't).
I would give it 5 stars IF: 1) the top and bottom scales could be overlapped in the same guitar fretboard (now you have them separated one at the top and one at the bottom); 2) if the scale note numbers could be presented not only as I-II-III-IV..., but based on their relation to the major scale intervals (i.e. 1-b3-5-b7-...).

Free has to entice.

Unable to get touch screen to respond well.
Finger gestures sends the program into aux features.

I suspect that your compatability with the ad strip is causing conflicts...
