Description

The Classroom Organizer IOS app works in conjunction with Booksource's Classroom Organizer web application to allow educators to organize and track books in their classroom library. The app features barcode scanning functionality to eliminate the need to manually enter ISBN numbers for books. Our extensive database searches the scanned books to find the title of each book, again, eliminating the need to manually type this information.

The Classroom Organizer app is an affordable alternative to purchasing a typical USB scanner. With the Classroom Organizer app educators can simply walk around their classroom and scan each book via their IOS device.

Check your progress as books are scanned by using the "Manage Library" function of the app. View the title, cover image (if available) as well as quantity of a title that has been added. Quickly find items by sorting books by title or quantity. Add your students’ names by using “Manage Students.” Select “Add New Student” for a new student name or choose an existing name from the list to edit or delete. This will be the list of students who are able to check out from the classroom library. To check out a book, choose “Check Out”, select a student name and scan the book.
We've also included the ability to assign locations to books as they are added to a Classroom Organizer account. Simply create locations and choose a location before adding a book to your library. The selected location is maintained until a new selection is made. This allows for quick scanning of multiple books in a single location.

Great start but needs improvement

Thanks for making this app free! You have a great start but there are a few tweaks that could make this app awesome. First, elementary age students are using this app. You might think about making it easier for them to use. For instance, bigger buttons that tiny fingers can push and picture support so none-readers can easily find which buttons to punch to checkout or checkin. It would be great if a picture of the book came up when they scanned it to checkout. Second, when checking in a book it would be better to have the option to scan the book or look up by student name. This makes it easier if a stray book is found and it hold the student accountable that they are actually returning the book. With your system now, a student could easily say they returned a book because they don’t actually have to have the book with them to return it. I have also noticed that after a student checks out a book that the information still stays in the boxes. It would be nice if the information totally went away once the checkout was complete. I worry a student might checkout a book accidentally because the name of the book was already filled out in the boxes from the previous student.

Wow, this is excellent feedback! Thank you for giving us these insights into how you are using the app and what we can improve. We are working on a new version of the app right now so these items will definitely be factored in.

If you have any other feedback, feel free to email us at classroomorg@booksource.com. We really do read and listen to all of the feedback we get from users. We would particularly like to hear more about how you use this app in your classroom (on a single shared device, individual student devices, etc.).

Time for 21st century updates

While I appreciate this app, especially the fact that it is free, it seems rather old school to me. I have multiple copies of books but Booksource cannot distinguish one copy from another as far as I can tell (so when a book is ‘found’ by another teacher, I cannot do a quick scan to figure out to which student it is checked out). Also, the ‘manage books’ page of the app seems useless - it’s simply a list of titles with check boxes in front of them. I cannot click on the titles for further info and I cannot even click the box in front of them. What is one supposed to be able to do on this page??? Really, I don’t get what this app is actually capable of doing. I’d love it if someone could fill me in b/c it isn’t intuitive (or maybe it simply isn’t capable of doing what I wish it could do).

You've identified a few possible problems. Can you email us at classroomorg@booksource.com so we can help identify the issues behind what you are describing? Also if you haven't tried the website at classroom.booksource.com please check it out because it is more feature rich than the app right now.

We are working on a new version of the app and website so thanks for sticking with us!

You Get What You Pay For

First of all, this is a great concept; scanning book ISBNs, looking up their info automatically, and keeping your classroom library organized for checking books in and out. However, the execution is abysmal. There’s no method on the app for editing titles or removing them if you’ve accidentally created duplicates. “No problem!” says the developer. “Just log in to the web site and make your edits from there.” Ok, this actually works, but is so unintuitive that it took half an hour to log in and find where to do the editing. On top of that, changing the incorrect school name by searching zip codes sounds like a great feature. However, when you select the correct school name and tap the save button, nothing happens. I supposed I should y have expected much from a free app that hasn’t been updated in 4 years, but there are some really great free apps out there…just not this one. And the web doesn’t seem to be any better. Very disappointing.
