MIDI Guitar is the World’s first app to transcribe guitar playing into MIDI in real-time, with latency and accuracy comparable to expensive and inconvenient hardware MIDI guitar solutions.

MIDI Guitar is over 10 years in development(!) and based upon state-of-the-art polyphonic pitch detection and –prediction technology that can accurately recognize guitar playing and -articulation with very low latency and without spurious hits. The technology has been validated by thousands of guitarists over the years.

MIDI Guitar comes as AudioUnit plugin (AUv3) and as a standalone app which can host other iOS synth apps or send virtual midi to Garageband or other DAWs.

You need a guitar interface for best results. We recommend a digital interface (using the lightning connector) over analog (via headphone jack), preferably with input gain control. Using an acoustic guitar with the built in microphone works for some purposes but is not optimal.

The free version will interrupt every few minutes, asking you to buy an in-app purchase.

If you have problems please refer to the website: www.jamorigin.com/docs or the user forum: jamosapien.com.

One of the best apps ever created

I’ve been playing around with this app for a few years now. More as a fun curiosity. Had it on stage a couple of times but things were getting too cluttered with the phone rigged up with MIDI Guitar 2 and pedals. Was looking more at trying to slim down all the wiring on stage. I just discovered all that’s under the hood in this app today. I can actually get rid of all my pedals (except one) and use MG2 exclusively. It’s equipped with all the effects I normally use in pedal form. Plus all the virtual instruments I want to use - so no other app is necessary. I already thought this was a well above the mark app, but now.....! This plus the Omec Teleport and l’m totally set. You can set presets in the app for all the sounds + effects combos you use. So easy to get a setup you like, then save it and recall when you need it. Thank you so much. This is truly the best note to MIDI converter setup ever devised. Either the tracking has gotten better over the past year or I’m getting better at playing through a MIDI converter. I can barely hear the latency. Sounds more like a slight quick single hit delay effect (quick slapback) - which I normally use anyway. Soooo awesooooome!!!

Never expected an app to dominate like this

I’ve always wanted to use my guitar for midi control since, well, I’m a guitar player but I also do heavy amounts of production...and every crazy expensive hardware setup I’ve tried (all the usual suspects they’ve been around for a while except Fishman which actually seems tight and if this didn’t exist I’d be on that) but anyway, this is too much fun and while I’m struggling to integrate my ikMultimedia blueboard in a better way to the setup, i do use a second iPhone as a midi controller which I attach to the base of the guitar below the strings so I can control some settings I’ve mapped through Ableton or AUM depending on my situation. Either way it’s such a nice change of pace to use an instrument I’m actually decent at to play my synths. Latency has been an issue since my setup IS a bit all over the place in terms of routing but I just updated to Catelina on OSX and I’m hoping the latency with IDAM is going to be better now

Great app

As a pro guitarist from way back, I’m 64 years old, I’m amazed at the level that technology in music production as achieved. I’ve used just about every guitar, effect, and guitar synth ever produced. My current setup involves a MacBook Pro and an iPad. Who’d of ever thought?? As with all guitar-MIDI synths, you have to play with this thing to get it to behave the way you want. Fear not, there’s ample controls. Once you get all your inputs and outputs sorted out you have to setup each sound your trying to play, be it a nice lush pad or a ripping solo instrument. Then be sure to SAVE YOUR WORK! :)
You’ll be adjusting Gain, and a bunch of other stuff like Legato, Bend, etc etc. You can also blend your actual guitar sound with added effects with whatever synth sound you’re using.
I enjoy technology but I also like musical sounds that I can use effectively and creatively on various projects. This will be yet another tool in my tool box. Have fun. Cheers!
