Description

MIDITrail is a MIDI player which provides 3D visualization of MIDI data sets.
You can enjoy not only listening but also viewing.
MIDITrail supports Standard MIDI File (format 0/1), CoreMIDI, and multiple MIDI ports.
MIDITrail is available for Windows, macOS and iOS.

Optional feature: You can enjoy the VR(virtual reality) experience using cheap VR glasses for smartphones and the game controller for iPhone.

Requirements: iOS 12.0 or later

(1) Preparing MIDI files
You have to transfer MIDI files to your iOS device from Mac or PC.
Connect your iOS device to Mac or PC, and launch iTunes.
Then you can transfer MIDI files using 'File Sharing'.
Or you can add MIDI files to MIDITrail using Files App of iOS.

(2) Preparing Sound module
You can use sound module which supports Core MIDI. And you can use internal wavetable synthesizer.
There are three ways as shown below:
The first way is to connect MIDI interface device and external sound module. (e.g. iRig MIDI, i-MX1, etc.)
The second way is to use Synth App which supports 'Virtual MIDI Port' and 'Background Mode'. (e.g. KQ Sampei, bs-16i, Sound Canvas for iOS, etc.)
The third way is to use the internal wavetable synthesizer. You have to transfer the wavetable file (DLS/SF2) to your iOS device in advance.

To add on to my last review

Ok, so the only problem I have with this app is, why does my midi file sound like an 8 bit synth? Because I have seen other videos on midi trail and it seems to sound great, but when I try it, it seems to sound like a high pitch hertz noise that are in those hertz tests, everything else works fine. Please fix this.

Almost there...

A beautiful and well executed app with some cool features. Kudos to the team!

Here are some issues I found - please, please resolve these:

Currently, it always from start to finish and no way to rewind or fast forward which results in waste of time most of the time and if we miss the spot while playing back, we have to play it all over again!

Show progress bar during playback and allow to jump through playback by tapping behind/ahead of current playhead position

Toggle Rotation - No way to control Rotation speed as it is fixed and slow. Need to speed up rotation for some songs. If trying to rotate for a part of the song, part finishes playing back while rotation does not finish and come back full circle.

When we adjust the angles/perspectives/positions using the bars on the sides, please allow us to save the current angles so we can load those angles in future without having to re-adjust them every time.

In the View drop down menu, highlight the currently chosen item (Viewpoint 1, 2, Toggle Rotation, Lock Screen, etc) to indicate statuses. You can use a check mark, highlight in a different color or bold the item. Check mark are preferred.

What do the Skip buttons do?

The Song Title that displays at the top-left is fetched from its metadata. Please allow us to edit this title to display a correct title.

Option to display sheet music notation in playback mode.

I love this app, but two big problems.

I love this app, but there are two big problems that annoy me.A LOT. Not enough to make me uninstall or anything, but annoying nonetheless.

1.) Multi-track recordings don't work properly and only play one track. Maybe this is because I don't have it synced up to midi, I don't know. Also a lot of times it seems very out of sync I'm multi-track.

2.) If you were to make something stupidly fast, say, 500 BPM hemidemisemiquavers, then there will be a constant pitch that plays, even when the song ends, and even in the main menu. The only way I've found to fix this is to exit the app or play a different song that isn't as fast.

Fix these things and I'll be very happy!
