Description

Get daily news and information about recent volcanic activity from three different news sources. First, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Volcano Hazards Program. Each Volcano Activity Report includes an assigned alert level and aviation color code as issued by the USGS, as well as details regarding current activity. Volcano Updates typically contain detailed information on the active Hawaiian and Alaska Volcanoes, as well as any new activity at Yosemite. If something is going on, the USGS update will appear here.

New for Volcano Updates, support for New Zealand by way of GeoNet news feed. GeoNet is a collaboration between the New Zealand Earthquake Commission and GNS Science.

The Smithsonian Weekly Volcanic Activity Report is a cooperative project between the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program and the USGS's Volcano Hazards Program. Updated every Wednesday, It contains reports for volcanoes with new activity as well as reports for continually monitored volcanoes around the world. While not a comprehensive list of all volcanoes erupting during the week, it is a concise summary of certain volcanoes around the globe.

Having trouble

Enjoying this app as we are going to the Big Island of Hawaii this year. It has worked perfect up to today and now it won't open. Thought there might be an update causing the problem but not sure. Hope you fix the problem.

Great app for Volcano Watchers

This app is extremely helpful, it draws upon USGS, GeoNet, and other data sources, and organizes and presents that data in ways makes it much easier to search and review.

This same developer had an earlier app called “Kilauea Up!” that is absolutely indispensable, and I still use it daily to keep up with Kilauea volcano. Not sure why it is not currently available on the App Store.

Please keep up the good work, it is very much appreciated!

Ok, needs its own maps

This app is ok. The big and most important thing it is lacking is its own maps where you can browse the many volcanoes in the world and select any of them to look up their name and info. This app only uses your built-in imap to show a pin for the location of a volcano once you select it from the list (only currently active ones - no complete list). Its own map would have made the paid-app worth it.

Also this app only goes back about 2 days. It needs to go back further in time to consider paying for the upgrade. I do very much like the darker background with lighter letters though. The small gray fonts are not very legible and need to be larger with full contrast.
