Locate the adjustment buttons on your TV and AVR remote controls and then follow the THX app tutorials which walk you through your “THX tune-up.” The app offers tips about your remote control, room lighting, viewing distance and other helpful advice.

Video adjustments
• Aspect ratio – ensure your TV displays shapes & sizes correctly
• Brightness – make certain shadow details & night scenes are clearly visible
• Contrast – confirm white detail is distinct on your television
• Color – make sure colors are bright & vibrant but not cartoonish
• Tint – check skin tones look natural & are not too green or red

THX tune-up uses your iOS device’s camera to set color and tint with a special built in color filter. Point the device camera at the TV screen and see if the color or tint is adjusted correctly.

Audio adjustments
• Speaker assignment – ensure speakers are connected to the correct AVR output & intended sound is coming from the correct speaker
• Speaker phase – confirm that positive & negative speaker wires are connected correctly and all speakers are in phase

Extras
• Turn “moo can” on & tilt your device to hear it “moo”
• Play extraordinary THX trailers (just like in THX Certified cinemas) to show off your newly tuned TV & sound system to friends and family
• Show off your audio system by playing “THX Deep Note” in 5.1 surround sound, just like in the theater

Disappointed

I have a new LG Nano90 with horrible presets for half the picture modes, especially “Cinema, “HDR,”” and “Filmmaker” which were way too dark and whites appearing pink-tan compared to a sheet of white paper held against the screen.

I thought this app was great at first, starting with calibrating the “Standard”mode first that changed to Bright 70, Contrast 70, and Color 62. No change needed for Aspect or Tint 0. But that’s all this app did, with no process for Backlight, Sharpness, etc.

Working the missing process for those on my own, I ended up with Backlight 70, Sharpness 30, and Warmth either C20 or Cool. But there were still too many other obscure settings that still left unacceptable picture quality variations between many of the modes, especially Cinema, HDR, and Filmmaker.

Bottom line, I gave up and reset *every* picture mode back to presets, and settled for most effective overall improvement across *all* modes just by changing warmth to C20 or Cool, which left me with acceptable variations I could live with depending on whether watching CNN, NFL, or a movie. Period.

Now I need to start over with some other product.

Very very nice!

When I got this I wasn't expecting much but I was very pleasantly surprised! It has several basic tools 14 your TV but they are very good and I really couldn't ask for more especially for a free app. The total for adjusting color and tiny is really cool and I've never seen on before. Basically point your camera at the TV and is the app broadcasts an Image to the screen the app tells you verbally how to adjust your color settings until it appears correctly on your phone's screen. The audio walk-through is a very nice touch and is informative but still simple. The only flaw with this app, which probably isn't it's fault, is that it can only do audio tests through stereo speakers as the Apple TV can't play surround sound through airplay. I'm still giving it five stars because it's not the apps fault.

Good when it works

Apparently THX has forgotten about this app. I’ve used it several times with good results, but on my new tv it seems to have become somewhat buggy. More often than not it opens then immediately closes, or won’t open at all.
Finally got it to work today with a lightning to hdmi cable. Never could get it to work with screen mirroring. Doesn’t appreciate it has been updated in a long time.
