Description

The FiLIP app has been designed to work with the FiLIP wearable phone and locator, and other smart devices for kids.

With the FiLIP companion app, parents can control their child’s device right from their smartphone. They can set up the device, add the contacts, manage SafeZones, send text messages, track their child’s location, and call their child from the app.

Safe zone mapping needs WORK

Bought two of these and received a couple of weeks ago, mid-Jan 2015.

A) Kids say the watch buttons are easy to use but the watch itself can be uncomfortable to wear. We wanted the 2nd generation watch on account of the extenders making the watchband able to close (so losing watch is harder). But 1) it requires incredible dexterity for little fingers to work the extender to close or release - makes getting the watch off/on independently for children impossible, a tantrum-in-the-making AND 2) only one size extender comes with the watch - if your child needs a larger size, you have to spend another $20 on an extender bundle. It should have been included with the watch automatically - why penalize parents of children with larger wrists?

B) The safe zone mapping needs to be sorely improved: 1) parents need to be able to make the safe zone area smaller than the radius currently allows, and 2) be able to drag and adjust a safe zone area on the map with their finger and not have to use a physical address for location determination - these are terrible limitations.

C) At the present, the GPS is sketchy at best. The app doesn't always correctly reflect the location of the watch. In fact, if each of your two children have one, sometimes the app will swap the kids locations! And it's not because they're wearing the wrong watch - they each have a different color watch, so we know they are wearing the correct one.

App needs some work

I like the watch and being able to keep track of my boys. There just needs to be some adjustments to the app. I have more than 5 safe zones for my boys and the safe zones need to allow you to make them smaller than 500ft. 500ft at my house includes 2 streets around my house and 4 neighbors. The park I go to is maybe 100ft across. So 500ft there could mean someone has taken my kid and is already gone from the park and on the main road before I get a notification. Also, it will only let me invite 1 other person to be able to keep track of the boys. When my best friend (who lives with me & is like family) has the boys by himself I would like for him to be able to keep track of their whereabouts. I want the same for my dad & mom. They shouldn't have to rely on calling me to do it. If I'm out riding my motorcycle while they have the kids at the park or the mall and one kid goes missing. They have no way to track the boys or get a hold of me. I think allowing more than 2 people track your kids is a major option that needs to be added. Even if you only allow temporary access to track. Having an option to turn on and off when they can and can't track would be useful. When they have my kids I want them to be able to see where they are. Not just me and my husband. When we are unavailable it makes the whole point in the watch useless if my parents and best friend can't locate the kids without me. Add these changes and I will give 5 stars.

Where to begin, horrible battery life, Half of the time it doesn't even last through a full day of school. GPS inaccurate half the time, hey give me a GPS location eight blocks away from my daughter school. Also GPS alerts can be hours behind when you ask for an update. My daughter could be home and it won't update her location for 2-3 hours and then other times it alerts me that she's home as soon as she's in the driveway. Trying to call, can't understand anything major echoing and constantly cutting out. Also the text messaging can be hours behind, message my daughter at 6:45 in the morning and she receive the message at 9 o'clock while she was in school. The band is extremely small, if you have a child that is on a higher growth scale it will not fit them. Finally the app keeps closing on my phone and every time I try to reopen it it tells me invalid password, I reset the password enter a new one and it still tells me invalid password half of the time. This was a great idea, I feel all Families should be able to access a simple inexpensive way of communication that restricts a child's use to family only but this needs a lot of improvements. For $100 and a $10 a month fee it is useless.
