Description

Music History Flashcards is a set of virtual flashcards covering the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern eras.

The app is intended to be a study aid for students preparing for the Royal Conservatory of Music's Level 9 and Level 10 exams. It will also interest Music Development Program students and music appreciation students. There are around 450 cards for each exam (just over 700 total), divided into six categories: musical terms, composers' styles, composers' repertoire, composers' biographies, score excerpts and representative works. You can also answer questions by era.

The answer screens generally include additional background information relating to the the question.

The app records your scores and keeps a track of the highest score per category, as well as the average score. The app is aligned with the 2016 syllabus.

Grandma Melby ,

Helpful!

I used this app to cram for my music history diagnostic exam. It was very helpful! Extremely useful for brushing up on Medieval through Classical. Not so great after that. Stops at Bernstein. Overall, very useful!

MaestroDSCH ,

Thorough and very useful.

These are excellent! Score examples, mini-quizzes (i.e. "Who wrote this work?")... But, seriously, what's with the Alexina Louie obsession!?

Developer Response ,

Hi - thanks for your review! To answer your question, Alexina Louie appears so prominently in the app because she's one of the required composers on the exam. Cheers!

Music history flash cards

This is a beautifully done app, and a welcome study companion for the RCM/ music development program history exam. It includes cards for levels 1 and 2. Each card asks a multiple choice question. The student will get a point for each correct answer, or 1/2 point for a correct answer on the second guess. The answer provides great information needed for the exam. A very fun way to study for the exam, or just learn music history!
