Description

VetCalc, short for “VETeran Combined Disability CALCulator,” is the solution to all of your questions relating to 1) “How” the Department of Veterans Affairs calculates disability percentages pursuant to the Combined Ratings Table (See 38 CFR 4.25 and 4.26) and 2) “How” the Department of Veterans Affairs calculates your monthly disability benefit payment using the Veterans Affairs Compensation Benefits Rate Table. Often times the process the Department of Veterans Affairs uses to combine these disability percentages and calculate monthly benefit payments is referred to as “Veterans Affairs Math” or “VA Math.” You can rest assured that VetCalc addresses ALL of your questions relating to calculating disability benefit percentages and payments in seconds.

During the several years I worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Rating Specialist, I would quite frequently discover that the Bilateral Factor was not properly entered into disabilities that REQUIRED it, pursuant to 38 CFR 4.26. After correcting this error by properly including the Bilateral Factor, the Veteran’s overall disability percentage would, quite frequently, increase to the next higher level! Please check out the “Examples” page above for hypotheticals exposing the effect of this Bilateral Factor error on the overall monthly payment!

You may have noticed that several websites offer free calculators that similarly attempt to provide you with solutions to VA Math problems. Although these calculators bear many different names, for instance: “Veterans Affairs Disability Calculator,” “Veteran Combined Calculator” and “Disability Percentage Calculator” they all seem to have 3 things in common: 1) They are not easy to use 2) They do not include Bilateral Factor calculations and 3) THEY DO NOT PROVIDE THE CORRECT COMBINED DISABILITY PERCENTAGES.

Trust my experience; don’t expect the Department of Veterans Affairs to correct the problem for you. Double check the VA Math today by purchasing VetCalc and take the necessary steps to force the Department of Veterans Affairs to correct the error in YOUR claim.

Isn’t your peace of mind worth 99¢? After all, VetCalc could literally save you THOUSANDS!!!

Missing Critical Functions

This calculator contains ZERO rating capabilities for special monthly compensation. There is not statutory smc(s), no smc(k), any of the smc(l) through smc(o) levels, none of the smc(p) levels, neither the higher level of aid and attendance smc(r.1) or the higher level of care smc(r.2), OR the new smc(t) for traumatic brain injuries.

For me, this app is essentially useless, as it cannot come up with any of the correct ratings.

There isn’t even an option for a 100% rating; the highest it goes is 90%. 🤔

UPDATE: This is meant to be a reply after receiving a response from the developer.

I did not know the numbers of folks receiving smc entitlements were so drastically small and, as a developer myself, I understand the frustrations included in figuring out smc entitlements. Perhaps I could help.

I would suggest adding a 100% button so that the statutory smc(s) could be reached, as it doesn’t seem too complicated, since the requirements are only a single disability rated at 100% plus a disability OR disabilitIES combining up to 60% or higher.

Considering the target audience, I change my review of this app from one to five stars.

Developer Response ,

Hey there Cody, thanks for the feedback. Correct this does not contain computations for special monthly compensation entitlements, nor is the app advertised as including those computations. With that in mind, I hope you weren't misled.

Also it seems you are aware (perhaps not) there is no interplay between how garden variety compensation percentages are calculated and how smc entitlements are determined. They are two completely different concepts. I have considered adding the smc functioning into the app, but to be straightforward, those higher level smc entitlements (other than K) apply to such a small segment of disabled Veterans, that its difficult to justify the cost and energy to include it. After all, slightly less than 1% of Veterans who receive VA Compensation are rated at the 100% rate or higher.

As for a "100% button" I ruled out including it as there is no real utility in including such a button. Notably, the concepts that drive VA math are irrelevant if you indeed have a single 100% disability, thus there is no point to include such a button.

I hope I have not upset you too much with our free app. Take care

Very helpful

If you’re looking at this it’s probably because “VA math” takes some thought considering it seems to be based on derivatives. This app is so easy to use. No need to crawl the web to find the new fiscal year pay charts, and if you ever file and lie in bed wondering what scenarios could happen following your claim determination you’re gonna skip that mess and spend 10 seconds to find every possible outcome. Can not give a higher review but I sure wish I could. God bless the developers here for helping our hero’s. Thank you for your service.

Best practical VA rating calculator!

This is a pretty straightforward calculator that I used up until just recently when I was awarded 100% and P&T.

I always forward this app to my battles in helping then with their ratings.

If I could suggest anything, it would be to add a backpay option but you can really do that yourself by just playing with your anticipated reward dates and intent to file date.
