Bring back former feature

Apple Maps is my preferred map app and I use it daily to understand best route to take with traffic etc. Recently, I have missed many exits when using the interstate because you changed the notifications for next direction. I wish you would show the exit number or street name/sign in the larger notification prompt (top left-hand corner of screen) instead of only counting down how close the driver is the next direction (turn/exit/etc). This is especially problematic when there are multiple options near each other (on an interstate system). I want to quickly see an exit # where I’m supposed to go vs trying to decipher which of many roads I’m supposed to follow by looking at the highlighted road. By then I’m missing it and avoiding an accident by going sometimes far out of my way because I couldn’t decipher my next move quickly enough. You used to show “Exit # in 1.3 miles,” (for example). That was more helpful than just how far you are from the exit. I also agree with other reviews that sometimes I will pick the route I want to take, and it takes me on whatever route it wants - not the route I selected. I also would like to see you add final destination arrival time somewhere without having to back out of the navigation for multiple-stop routes.

Huge improvements

Apple Maps used to be a far second behind Google Maps but they made vast improvements and finally implemented a lot of missing features since iOS 16. Still room for improvement and hope iOS 17 will address: - Adding toll prices for driving routes - Ability to add notes to locations in guides - Adding ETA for transit when departure time is set to now, rather than solely estimated duration. Even an ETA range would be helpful. - Adding the ability to recognize or ask if you're currently on public transit. As of the time of this writing, if you're on the train and lookup a route, it will suggest routes assuming you're on the street at whatever given point which completely changes the ETA and potential transfers you should/could be making. - Figuring out a more accurate way to include businesses and their info. This is the area where unfortunately maps still really lacks. I'm constantly running into incorrect hours of operation, businesses that no longer exist and businesses that exist but are not included. I try to contribute and report these whenever I come across them, but relying on user contributions just isn't a viable longterm solution. If legality or contractual agreements prevent modern web scraping then I hope there is a more creative solution like creating a business facing interface, working with government business registrars or just something more reliable. Overall, I love the new Apple Maps.

Actually difficult to use for Apple and glitchy

It seems like someone at apple thought they were smarter than the users and being helpful when it turns out the app can be a huge pain to use for anything but basic navigation. They made the address too sticky so that it is a real challenge to have the app forget that address so I can enter a new address. Forget about adding any stop you want along the way too. I cannot figure out how to enter what I want instead of the standard list of generic places apple allows. How do I go from A to B but stop at my friends house along the way? Lately, the app has too many occasions when it thinks I am off the road, literally off in the woods along the side of the highway, or going east when I am heading north and it gets confused telling me to go places that are completely wrong. All this happens in the middle of a trip not during some adjustments to it - pretty bad for such a smart system. I do like the newer features that track traffic but I hate that it tries to detour me around it automatically - I know that might be helpful BUT don’t do it unless I give permission!! There might be another reason I took that route and I can handle the traffic. Please do not think too much for me as a user and restrict what I can do or make choices without asking. Instead, give me the options and tools I need to solve problems, then be helpful with suggestions along the way.
