Whether you’re a student or teacher, whether you play in a band, sing in a choir, or gig on the weekends, and no matter what style of music you play, you can count on the app’s reliability for live performances and go paperless with confidence.

Build Your Library

• Import PDF files from the Files app, Mail, a web browser, or other sources.
• Import PDF files from file manager apps that integrate with the Files app, such as Dropbox and many others.
• Transfer music to your device using AirDrop.
• Scan your music with the camera-based document scanner.
• Import images from the Photos app.
• Describe and classify your music in as much detail as you want with information like title, composer, artist, genres, tags, instruments, key, duration, time signature, rating, difficulty, tempo, track, web link, and notes.
• Add scores with multiple movements or books with multiple songs, then organize them into sections.
• Add a track from the Music app to any music. Play it back from the library or the viewer.

Organize Your Music

• Create collections to make groups of music.
• Collections can be used for just about anything, like making a setlist for a performance, or creating a virtual binder or book.
• Easily find the music and collections you’re looking for with the power of filters.
• With a few quick taps, for example, you can show music that’s in a major key with a 4/4 or 6/8 time signature, having a tempo between 120 - 135 beats per minute.
• Create smart folders to automatically keep your music and collections organized.

Practice and Perform

• View music in portrait or landscape mode.
• Scroll music horizontally or vertically.
• Turn pages by swiping, moving the slider, or tapping the edge of the screen.
• Use facial gestures to turn pages or follow links. (A device with a TrueDepth camera is required.)
• Use a Bluetooth page turner, such as those from Coda Music Technologies, PageFlip, and AirTurn.
• Create links to jump or scroll from one page to another.
• Links are great for music with repeats or codas. They also allow music to be automatically scrolled with precise timing.
• Use the pencil and highlighter tools to write on music with your finger or with the Apple Pencil. All Apple Pencil settings are supported.
• Add text with options for size, rotation, color, font, and justification.
• Choose from a wide selection of symbols to add fingerings, dynamics, accidentals, and more to your music.
• Use the low-latency metronome with options for sound, visuals, accent, and count off.

Share and Archive

• Share your music and collections with other Paperless Music users, with or without your annotations.
• Share music in native format to preserve all information, or share in PDF format for general sharing and printing.
• Create an archive of your library to easily back up, restore, or transfer everything to another device.

And Much More

• Set the page color of your music.
• Undo any edits made to any page of your music while the viewer is open.
• Choose from six view modes for music and three view modes for collections.
• Batch edit genres, tags, and instruments.
• Customize many aspects of the app’s behavior in settings.
• Adjust the text size in the Settings app to boost or shrink the size of text throughout the app.
• Search using Spotlight. Find and launch right into your music even when the app isn’t running.
• Learn more by reading the integrated, searchable user guide, accessible from the app’s home screen and from the website.
• Aside from importing music and playing back tracks from remote sources, no network access is needed, allowing you to perform in any environment.

Truly a musician’s friend

This app manages 100s of pages of sheet music effortlessly for me. It is easy to load music, whether from PDF files or from the iPad’s camera. I use the genre field to separate the music from the three bands I play in, and I use the key field to identify which of my Bb or C trumpets the piece is scored. These and other fields make it easy to filter, to build playlists, etc. as intended or as needed! Finger taps work fine to change the page, but I love having a Bluetooth 2-button pedal to move forward and backward through the pages within a song, and between pieces in a playlist. Editing music to incorporate the conductor’s comments or to highlight key changes or accidentals or whatever is quite easy on the fly with a pallet of common markings that can be dragged in place on the music, or using he on or highlighter tool with your finger (or iPad pencil), easily changing pen color or line width. It is easy to zoom in with “pinching” to ensure markups go right where needed, even when scribbling with a fat finger. The software creator has been very responsive to questions and to suggestions, and actively keeps updating the software.

Great for leading a band

Paperless Music has revolutionized the way I lead my church band. I’m a pro audiovisual tech (8years) and part-time music director (6 years) and pairing this app with a Bluetooth page turner (the Coda STOMP, which is top notch) has made my communication better, my preparation more effective, and my rehearsals shorter. All for $5 once, and with the added ability to easily export the library with annotations. Importing charts from Planning Center is quick and easy as well. I highly recommend it. For reference, I’m using an iPad 7th gen, an OnStage iPad mount that attaches to a mic stand, Paperless Music, & the Coda STOMP hardwired to a VooDoo Lab ISO 5 power supply. The only bad news is that I have no excuse for messing up anymore...

Room for improvement

Pros: the drag and drop musical icons are good. If you need things organized by genre or key, you can add that info or other tags. Cons: I thought this would be really intuitive for making set lists and organizing music, for someone who gigs a lot and in different groups. But there are some things that slowed me down, like: 1) having to individually import each PDF from Drive/ Dropbox, rather than a folder, tho this may be a fault of Drive/ Dropbox, 2) when you create a Setlist as a “collection,” it does not put them in the order you selected, but a seemingly random order, and 3) there is no way to select all, select by date added, or other shortcuts for quickly gathering all of your music from one ensemble to create a collection. So, one can make it work with tags, but if you have a lot of music and groups, it is a big upfront investment of time. 4) doesn’t recognize Apple Pencil for annotations.
This is my first app, so I don’t have much to compare it to. I’d shop around for another that doesn’t have so many cons.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your feedback. Importing multiple PDF files at a time has been possible for some time, but when using third party apps to export to Paperless Music, the third party app determines how multiple selection and export might work. The order of music in a collection can be changed by dragging and dropping. The latest version adds Select All support, and support for all Apple Pencil settings has also been added.
