Description

Neverending Nightmares is a psychological horror game inspired by the developer's actual battle with mental illness. In the game, you take on the role of Thomas who awakens from a terrible nightmare only to find that he is still dreaming. As he descends deeper through the layers of hellish dreamscapes, he must hide from horrifying apparitions and outrun his inner demons. He must discover which of the horrors he encounters are a manifestation of his own psychological state and figure out what reality will be when he finally wakes up.

* Terrifying nightmare worlds inspired by real life struggles with OCD and depression.
* Black and white artwork creates a distinctive moody and dark atmosphere.
* Branching narrative features 3 completely different endings.
* A dynamic lighting system gives the ever present darkness a character of its own.
* IGF nominated composer Skyler McGlothlin delivers a haunting and oppressive dark ambient score.

Running needs improvement but SICK

Great psychological depth in this frightening masterpiece. I would give it 5 but I get frustrated by the lack of stamina and running controls..... especially when the axe man comes during a scene in the asylum making for a very difficult exit when it doesn’t need to be.

Excellent indie horror game

Extreme and in full force on the atmosphere and suspense, this game is by no means a ‘traditional’ game; but rather a really scary and thought-provoking experience.

The game uses its beautiful yet bleak art style to convey from the start what kind of experience you’re in for, and it relies heavily on the imagery and visuals to piece this nightmare together. There are shock/jump scares, but they are used well and effectively as the tension is built up so that the payoff is earned. The sound effects are superb which adds to the immersion, and combined with a stellar creepy music score - as I said, this game is an experience above all, imo, and each piece of the game is perfectly crafted to give the gamer that psychological horror experience. And the inclusion of real life mental disorders gives the game real meaning and something to really think about as you play. It’s really up to the gamers interpretation for the most part. There is no hand holding or having things spelt out for you - which makes this type of game all the better.

So if you are looking for something a little different and love horror games, then I would say this is definitely worth the price of admission. It will get under your skin if you play late at night in the dark.

Update for iPhone X

Please update this game for iPhone X. I’ve followed this game for years and am finally getting to play it. The game is fantastic! But if you’re playing on an iPhone X, simple tasks like sprinting are near impossible because your finger keeps drifting into the black border. Also, is my character supposed to come to a complete stop after running out of stamina? This has gotten me killed several times. I can’t wait to play this game with an iPhone X update and will update my review once it’s here. Thanks!
