Description

Latin Words is a Latin to English and English to Latin translator that is powered by the William Whitaker's Words database, a database of over 39,000 Latin words. This app has several key features that make it unique from other Latin translator apps on the App Store.

Features:
- Multi-word searches for independently translating multiple unknown words with one search
- Search history to quickly access words that have already been looked up
- Easy to use and clean interface for displaying accurate search results
- Extra information about every word including its part of speech, declension or conjugation, and definition(s)
- Searches a database of over 39,000 Latin words, plus prefixes, suffixes, and other Latin grammar attributes

Features exclusive for translating Latin to English:
- Search suggestions to enable faster searches
- Parsing of word endings for when you can't figure out what the main form of the word is (e.g. searching "silvarum" will bring up the Latin word "silva" as a result even though "silvarum" isn't the nominative singular form)

What’s New

Version 2.3.1

- Fixed issue where app crashed upon the search bar filling up with characters
- Fixed issue where search bar appearance was messed up upon iPad rotation
- Fixed issue where long words in the search history could cut into the language indicator on the right

Nice for what it does, but...

This app is nice for what it does, but it limits you to five words in a phrase (and yes, I have paid for the upgrade). Also, it will not proceed if there is any punctuation (e.g. period, comma). Furthermore, an internet connection is required. An old Latin parser app I had didn't limit the words, didn't make me scroll for every word, didn't care about punctuation, and didn't need an internet connection. Again, this app is nice for what it does but it would be so much better with these issues addressed.

Simple and reliable

I’ve been interested in Gregorian Chant for years, and I’ve only quite recently starting to learn the language it’s all written in: Latin. As such, not only am I very ignorant with respect to vocabulary but also a whole lot of grammar. This app has a really cool feature where you can type in any form of (what I assume to be) just about every word, and it will not only give you the root word’s definition, but also the noun case/conjugation, etc. That’s really helpful for being able to understand what you’re reading, versus having to get the root word and fiddle through a bunch of pages (because Latin seems to have practically millions of word forms) to find the exact form of the word you see and then try to decipher it. This app does the hardest part for you, and leaves the most interesting part to you.

A Great app with room for improvement

This app is absolutely wonderful. It makes the tedious challenge of learning Latin much easier. However, every time the FaceBook ad pops up (which happens constantly) it won’t let me close it and I have to completely exit the app. Also, almost all of the words in the Latin language have a macron or two in it. I think adding macrons to the words in this app would give it the perfect finishing touch! ☺️👍
